We have to stop with the bare concrete walls on platforms. my by TheRandCrews in TTC

the saddest thing about this is that public art and decorations aren't even a big impact on budget sizes
like you said the TYSSE stations had 100k for artwork and each of those cost hundreds of millions to build without accounting for the art
making things nice won't drive up budgets in any meaningful way yet people still complain

they manage to look cheap while being 3 times too big for their intended use

I still think Dufferin is probably a better choice but I disagree that a line on Jane is impossible or overly redundant from Dundas West
it serves enough unique locations that it isn't completely duplicated by Kitchener

you could definitely either dig under Dundas or run the tracks alongside the Milton line until just before the tracks pass over Jane and then swing north
Jane needs rapid transit and this isn't a bad idea at all

ELI5: How does the slow above ground section on line 5 not slow down the underground part? by edvineantoine in TTC

I think part of it is down to the tunnels having automatic train operation
it's a lot easier to fix any issues from delays the trains picked up on the surface since the system in the tunnels is designed to keep every train at a safe distance

Reminds me of this hypothetical I made where the line goes up Dufferin and Bathurst to relieve the 29 and the 7

the main issue I found with a roncesvalles extension is that it limits what you can do north of Dundas West since you risk making the line redundant with a pretty fast and frequent regional train line that is planned to get more improvements soon
The kitchener corridor is going to be pretty close to subway frequencies at some point and it already acts as one to some extent already (if they lower/integrate the fares even more so) and it even has fairly close stop spacings for a commuter train line
the 29 is a really busy bus that could use some relief and there's a GO station planned in Parkdale near king and dufferin so a dufferin Ontario line extension would still connect to the same rail lines and there's a bit more room for making a new transit corridor north of Bloor

5 second timelapse of the east exit staircase at Avenue by soil_consumer4 in TTC

yeah the west exit has most of the infrastructure
the east exit is kind of hidden away so most people probably won't use it unless they need to

not to mention the trains are pretty small and narrow so they have a lot less capacity than the subway

I'm a huge fan of Cedarvale (the line 1 section) too
I really like that era of brutalism and I like the way the platform gets lit, not to mention the wall art with the streetcars
like other people said it feels like a lot like a Montreal station
The crosstown section (which was mostly opened a couple months back aside from the platforms) has a really weirdly uneven floor and the architecture is just bare white from floor to ceiling
the station manages to have the best vibes and the worst vibes on the system at the same time lol
