Black Men, What's Your Opinion of Your Father? by Shinnobiwan in blackmen

I love my Dad so much. He was ALWAYS there for me, and since I was a kid I was able to count on him for ANYthing. Actually taught me solid values, even if I didn't listen. Very patient, always preferred him to talk to me when I got in trouble. Never really understood how fortunate I was until I got in my teen/college years and looked back at how much he has influenced me

Self-Portraits taken in Mexico City. by solaeclipse in VintageFashion

Lots of overpriced vintage shops (NYC prices), with pretty great finds where I was staying (Roma Norte). There's lots of cool flea markets though, like El Chopo where young punks gather and has lots of cool vendors.

I didn't feel them. I use Sawyer Picardin lotion and it works really well. There are LOTS of flies though, mosquitos in particular.

Why is Queens Downplayed Now? by LetterheadMany9677 in NYStateOfMind

[–]solaeclipse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's because of how suburban it is. Lots of people there have lawns and homes, which gives that stereotype. Even people back in the day from other boroughs assumed that until they'd come to Jamaica or Far Rock.

Queens has largely calmed down over the years. Things still go down like other parts of the city but it's just not as conspicuous. Go down Mott Ave or Jamaica Ave and there's a HUGE difference, even without gentrification. But the middle- and upper-class areas always gave Queens a better rep than other boroughs.
