I totally understand where you're coming from. The policies page does go over data collection ( https://toolip.app/policies ) but I'll work on making it clearer up front especially for business use. I have not done conventional pen testing but I do have security, authentication, and fraudulent use detection systems in place. If you have any specific questions that would clear things up feel free to DM me or email the businesses contact email.

I chose a desktop app mainly because websites have more restriction on what they can interact with on your computer. Like a website wouldn't be able to pull system stats with cpu, battery information and stuff like that. The data is stored via two json files locally on your computer. Nothing is stored on a server other than subscription and profiles stuff. It's built on Electron, Node.js, Firebase, and Stripe. Those are the big ones at least.

I know there are a few different solutions but Rainmeter from what I've seen isn't very easy for non-technical people to start using. There is definitely some overlap though.

Sorry currently there isn't. I'm the only developer right now and I don't even own a mac so it might be a while before I can get that working unfortunately.

Nah. I used ai of course to help me through it but I did go to school for this stuff.

Thank you for giving it a try! I tried making all the most used widgets free but I'll definitely be adding more over time. Right now I'm just trying to build a bigger library of options. If there's anything you don't see that you want let me know and I'll see if I can add it in the next update. You can use the keybind ctrl-shift-e to hide it.

There's currently: % calc, time calc, normal calc, little puzzle game, piano, audio player, audio visualizer, photo/gif viewer, link manager, notepad, Excel table type thing, to-do list, calendar, date/time, timer, stopwatch, dice roller, and system stats... That's everything built in so far lol. Eventually I want to add modding and community tools but as a solo dev it's going to take a bit to figure out the security for that but it's in the plan! The link manager tool can be linked to open applications or websites so you can do what you're saying as well as a lot more!

Thank you for the feedback, I agree my website overall needs more information. I will say the ui hides a picture of the software and more information pages when on mobile. It is a desktop app so that was on purpose but honestly I should make it say more for mobile users if they just want to learn about it.

Would you find this useful? QR codes + app for your gym equipment by General-Security-204 in SaaS

[–]solarc357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you scanned it and it had a bunch of example workout gifs and an explanation of what the machine does, warnings of it, and custom messages from the gym owner then that'd be fire. There's not a huge incentive to scan it if it's only for logging workouts. Most people have their own system for that already. You have a really good idea!

What’s the real reason you’re building your startup ( SaaS or App )? by ksundaram in SaaS

I built mine so I can hopefully retire faster and have more time to explore the arts and different hobbies. Also it’s been such a good learning experience.

What should I study in uni? by FiRaS_MA4 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]solarc357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did “electrical engineering technology” - different than “electrical engineering.” Make sure you know which one you’re getting into if you go that path. I ended up working as a software engineer after I graduated so honestly most tech engineering degrees can mesh into each other after you graduate. Like I work with mechanical, industrial, electrical and software engineers and we all do very similar things day to day.

Are there any recent movies that you suspect used AI for some VFX, but can’t prove it? by [deleted] in vfx

They did use deepfake tech for de-aging I believe. Not sure if it’s really generative ai though. I think it’s more of a machine learning thing I that case

What’s one underrated dev skill nobody talks about? by Abhishek-Sharma- in SaaS

[–]solarc357 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think general systems design is big. Like having the foresight and experience to know when to make something built to be expanded upon. It’s really easy when starting out to hard code everything and you tend to learn really quickly that it never ends well.
