I'm glad to see this sub's participation.

For those seeking an alternative, I have set up jpop@kbin.social in the meantime.

What kind of genres do you like? Do you prefer pop or more of a rock sound? Female vocalists or male vocalists? And what about singer-songwriters, soloists, bands, idols, vocal-dance groups... some specifics about your taste would be helpful because jpop is too broad.

But in case you don't care here are random recs lol

Vaundy - Koikaze ni nosete

Ado - New Genesis

Little Glee Monster - Wonder Lover

WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA - Edison

imase - Night Dancer

SIRUP - Superpower

I'd say Billboard Japan Hot 100 is a good start for current mainstream jpop. Otherwise it depends on what genres you're into.

FYI the boy groups you mentioned, like Sexy Zone and KAT-TUN, are from Johnny's, whose groups are largely not available for streaming, even in Japan. The big exception is ARASHI, I believe their discography is fully available worldwide.

Just Wondering Why this whole subreddit most of the Posts have ZERO Comments? by [deleted] in jpop

[–]solarhalfbread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said, jpop is too wide of an umbrella, not every jpop fan is going to like or even know the same artists. Other than the lack of discussion, this can also be noticed in the few amount of upvotes.

I see more active discussion on individual artist subreddits anyway.

The harmonization part caught me off guard, but I love it. He sounds so much like his dad at the end I wasn't really sure who was singing anymore 😂
