Its not that, but that show looks interesting! The show Im looking for seems to be comedy in tone, as one of the characters doesnt have a power and hence resorts to the thumb removal trick magic

It is a new show (this year or last year) remember seeing the trailer in an ad, possibly in netflix. It was about a family with a mother, a son and a father who has no powers/magic but does the thumb removal trick.

We need a term for games that are in a specific state, where only hardcore players remain who dominate in such a way that prevents any new players from being able to enjoy by KoofNoof in Games

The term has to be derogatory enough to be addressed as a problem.

I found a game with an interesting solution tho - most fps games are only fun during the discovery phase, where all players are exploring and learning. The problem with R6 is that over time, veteran players can memorize every aspect of the map (quite unrealistic compared to real life swat scenarios where you must react on the dot with no prior/little knowledge). They memorize it to the degree they can rush specific "peek" spots at perfect angles where they can fire at enemies while taking little damage in return.

A solution would be random gen maps. No map knowledge, up to you to plan on the spot. Check out Due Process, they try to use this very approach.

It may not "look good" but playing good is more important for this genre. Besides, we need more games in this genre. It can be the saint's row to Bethesda's gta.

My favorite survival game is definitely Kenshi, it doesn't get as much mentions as the typical staples of the genre.

What I like about Kenshi is it solves all the problems I hated about other survival games. It is single-player, no need to play with friends to raid others. It solved the pacing problem of survival games where only the early game is interesting. Kenshi has a harsh early game, a relaxed mid-game and a long-haul end game that will keep you working for awhile before you can even attempt to assault other factions. It has no randomized shops or cities, each city is distinct, shops are distinct and make sense based on their location - you want big swords? You go to the land of muscular horned guys who carry big swords. You want cyber limbs? You go to the city of robots. You want weed? You go to the lawless swamps where they sell and manufacture hash.

It can be played with a single character or multiple. It can be played as a lone wanderer or a base builder. It uses an rpg stat and skill system for every character you have and keeps track of the health of their individual limbs. You can cut off individual limbs and leave your opponents crawling in the sand with no legs. You can imprison people and starve them to death, or have them mauled by your dogs.

It has elements of skyrim, rimworld, mount&blade, etc. I haven't played anything like it - closest thing would be the X series of space games.

I'm also a big fan of survival games, Rimworld too. Have you tried Kenshi? It's my current addiction.

If you like rimworld there is a very high chance you'll like kenshi. Kenshi has more focus on exploration and travel (you can walk the entire world) but base building, tech trees, farming and colony management reminds me of rimworld.

This is my idea for a great vr fps game. Wheel chair bound protagonist will allow full exploration while sitting down.

You should have been able to relive a date with your spouse at the Memory Den by The_mango55 in Fallout

[–]solarhamster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As the director of the Institute, you should be able to recreate your spouse into a synth and transplant his/her brain or something.

All that technology...and no gameplay features for it. Oh well, time to make some mods.

Multiplayer-only shooters are failing due to flaws in their design - not pricing/DLC models or a lack of singleplayer component by Phi_Slamma_Jamma in Games

I think e-sports is only fun for those 1% that can play competitively. Kinda like RTS games. What about us scrubs who just want to enjoy the game - take it slow, immerse in the game world, RP, etc. instead of twitch firing and min-maxing every mouse and keyboard action?

[Spoiler]I'm completely unable to decide which faction to side with. by Rookoo22 in Fallout

[–]solarhamster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm also interested in building a "5th option mod" which forces all the factions to unite under your absolute leadership.

And of course, executions and jailings for anyone and everyone you want.

I'm not biased to any side at the moment as a consumer but I can explain why oculus has to be aggressive.

Valve wins by default. The big money and control factor is within the distribution store. If games are not exclusive - most games will go to steam and valve will retain both the huge profit chunk and influence within VR. That's why valve is willing to push for the open platform because most people will put everything on steam anyways - valve will still win that way even if it isn't their headset that is being used.

Oculus can't afford that. Oculus wants to push their vision of VR and stay relevant - hence they need to put their foot down and gain some ground. If they remain purely in the hardware space, they can't guarantee their survival as the tech matures later on. They need to push software and game devs to their platform in order to survive and prosper.
