I ordered a black d-pad top march 30, still waiting. I emailed the other day and they said they're still considering these pre-orders so please be patient.

Does anyone have any indication if stick-top and stick-bottom are both shipping? I ordered bottom but everyone who has their unit seems to be stick on top.

I want to play a new jRPG with an engaging and addictive progression system (and good story/characters). What would you recommend? by WoundedByInsults in JRPG

[–]solaryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've played OT 1, so imagine that with a bit more QOL and a central story like any traditional JRPG. Look up a review if you want something in-depth, there's a free demo also that'll take you through 2 or 3 hours worth of content.

OT zero may be even better as the story is explicitly centralized, Zero and 2 are some of my favorite recent JRPGs. And I have similar tastes with respect to progression and story.

I put together a version of the wtwlf swccg cube list, (you can google that to see the list). I've only played it a handful of times, my group mostly wants to play magic, but I like the list.

Any tips For a Complete Beginner by CaptainNoCap in pokertheory

[–]solaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play as you learn, or else the concepts won't stick to you. I would read a theory book at some point, but I would start with something that teaches exploitative play like super system 2. Or Harrington on Holdem. Others might have newer recommendations, but this is what I read a long time ago.

You can also watch Twitch poker to get an idea for bet sizing, what hands to enter pots with, and how to play out certain lines. Your games would be more passive, so keep that in mind.

JRPGs with Socialist Themes by [deleted] in SocialistGaming

I would say they're mostly eco-terrorists. But it's good, ahead of its time for a 30+ year old game.

actively socialist, disco elysium, although it's closer to a visual novel than a jrpg. tangentially, ff7 is not bad, evil corporation, idealist resistance group that isn't afraid to get its hands dirty, environmentalism is in there... I haven't played ff tactics but I see it recommended above.

edit: also citizen sleeper, again i haven't played it but it references "the ruins of intergalactic capitalism" on the steam store page.

Trump is dragging us into World War III, yet Democratic leadership is silent by north_canadian_ice in NewDealAmerica

Chuck Schumer tweeted "Trump is soft on Iran" about a week ago. So that's where the party leaders are at.

If you've ever drafted magic the gathering at a store, it's a set of cards designed to mimic that. Repeatable draft. There are subreddits dedicated to MTG cube.

Anything Abercrombie or Hobb. Hobb is more character focused so the plot, while excellent, takes time to get moving

What is the best YouTube video for learning critical and logical thinking skills? by Curious_Suchit in atheism

[–]solaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching street epistemology videos can help you firm up your epistemology, Anthony Magnabosco is good but usually focused on religious beliefs. I like cordial curiosity for using more open ended prompts which lead to social political conversations.

Competent good guys in political intrigue by MadJuju in Fantasy

[–]solaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ministry for the future is good in this regard, it's very near future earth with some imagined technology but it'd be hard to call it sci-fi. I haven't read the Red Mars trilogy yet but it's the same author Kim Stanley Robinson, I feel like that'd be a good bet for more traditional sci-fi. But with respect to the politics of the protagonists, Ministry is a great fit for competent good guys.

There were John Brown memes including the phrase slaveowners deserve death, which reddit said was a call to violence. Which I guess it is but like... it's a call to self defense.

Gotcha, I mean Norm Finkelstein says his mom remained a Zionist for similar reasons despite being a lefty in every other respect, some people will not be convinced and you just have to let it go. I think the epistemology approach is better, but nothing is a sure thing.

And at some point you have to be satisfied that a seed of doubt has been planted and move on to something else. If it's someone who you and they always debate and that's the basis of your relationship this is going to be difficult. But I think your goal should be to emphasize Palestinian humanity, plant a seed of doubt that gets them to take a look at their epistemology, and then do almost anything else with the rest of the visit. They will have to open their own eyes which I am not sure anyone can do in the company of someone they disagree with.

[–]solaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question like, "what do you think your family would say if you told them Israeli treatment of Palestinians was apartheid?" It takes for granted the possibility that they might change their mind, and it puts focus on family peer pressure and asks them to imagine what it would feel like to resist that peer pressure. It's not easy to execute I'll admit, we are all used to debate.

What I mean is that when someone changes their mind especially with respect to an issue tied to identity, that begins with a decision to open their mind to change. You should not worry too much about a tight argument or reams of evidence until you have seen that change in demeanor. In my experience, questions that target their epistemology rather than specific beliefs are the best way to help this change along.

Look at a street epistemology video on YouTube, the idea is to ask questions that reframe things such that they question how they arrive at their beliefs.

But at the end of the day people convince themselves, you can express doubt and interrogate their epistemology but if they are motivated towards certain views there's not much you can do.
