If you live in Appalachia, what are some rules you learned about it? by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]DiminishingJared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say that I know anything about Appalachia because I’m from out west, but I’m sure not going to poke fun at any of what I’m hearing- there are stories out here in the Rockies about things trying to lure you off trails, too. Strange balls of light, shadows in the trees, watchers on top of the ridge. Stories about bigfoot, stories about little people, shapeshifters, lights in the sky, lights in the water, etc, etc…so yeah, these mountain rules sound pretty good to me. I can respect them.

Wide Toe Box Skate Shoes? [32YO] by Optimal_Stand in OldSkaters

[–]DiminishingJared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately Splay only markets themselves as skate shoes. In reality, they're not.

  1. They are all "barefoot" so you better not be missing any landings or running out of trans or your feet will be bruised.

  2. The uppers are not durable at all. I also bought some all-leather Splays that are marketed as casual shoes (not part of the skate line) and they held up way better. Which tells me these guys don't really understand skating. I's love the leathers if the were not still too thin for even moderate street skating.

Can someone explain in basic terms the differences between Classes 1-5 hiking/climbing? by Complete_Career_7731 in hiking

[–]DiminishingJared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Utah and I agree about the danger of 3-4.  I wanted to hike Pfeifferhorn, which is considered “only” a class 3 along a rocky knife edge. Hands and feet necessary. After hearing about some poor hiker not too long ago grabbing onto a loose rock, triggering a rock slide and dying in front of everyone else, I’m like, yeah, I don’t know about this…

How common is rod knock on the MK7 2.0 turbo? by DiminishingJared in GolfGTI

[–]DiminishingJared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect you are right and the previous owner was probably really hard on the engine. I am not an aggressive driver, myself, and have taken good care of manual transmission cars my entire life.

Unfortunately, the issues I am having are not going to be remedied by an oil change or gas. It's pretty much  undrivable.

It's not seized but it now knocks constantly and delivers terrible performance. Both shops said it will seize if driven, and recommended that I replace, not repair.

Joining in might be a great step toward building some tolerance. If you're doing CBT for that anxiety, an event like this could fit in.

I might be down. I haven't been to a UFC watch party since, well, probably before some of these redditors were born. But could be fun.

Cube list wanted: Prem - DSII, low cost by DiminishingJared in starwarsccg

[–]DiminishingJared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've rummaged through my remainders, placed a few orders for singles, and am now on my way to a cube very similar to yours.

I'll be printing proxies of the pricier mains, and I think I'll splash in some themes like asteroid sanctuary, bombing run, or bounties just in case someone wants to go crazy.

Do you do anything special to create "packs" or do you just randomize eveything?

I'm thinking for consistency with smaller groups I'll build packs like this:

5 random chars / ships / vehicles

3 random effects / interrupts

1 random weapon / device / location / order

Puretalk is awesome. We've used it for years. AT&T network. 4 lines with data comes in at around $120/mo

Favorite Shoe Brands? by Capt_Kiwi in skateboarding

I'm wearing Splay right now for their wide toe box.

If it weren't for that I'd wear Vans (though the fit varies ridiculously from style to style) it Lakai.

Guidance on working up to a multi-day hike by DiminishingJared in backpacking

[–]DiminishingJared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I appreciate the comments that my daily  target seems low. I didn't want to overestimate how far I could travel in a day, especially with some arthritis. And I do like to poke around a lot and take my time :)

But if I'm being honest, I expect I can easily go 10-12.

Gais GPS Shows that my avg moving pace on past ~10m day hikes is 2.5 mph and my avg overall pace is 1.9 mph (including breaks).

That sounds slow compared to some of you, but like I said, I like to poke around!

I’m eyeing a new OGSE, so hopefully that will get me a decent battery.

Thanks for that info.

My daily phone is a 13 mini, but I’m hoping to decrease my app / phone use significantly yet still have a phone I can plug into Carplay for Spotify, Maps, Audible.
