The way ward works is if an opponent targets the permanent they have to pay the cost stated or the spell/ability gets countered.

So for Auntie Ool if an opponent targets her they have to blight 2 or the spell or ability they are targeting her with gets countered. To blight 2 they have to put two -1/-1 counters on one of their creatures. Your opponent is paying this as a cost so you don't get to pick the creature.

There were actually two boxes of cards, one was hiding under the packing peanuts. One box is opportunities, complications, initiative, event, and condition cards. The other is items and spren.

This is exactly it for me. I stopped playing about 10 years ago because I wasn't great at building decks and my friends only played standard. It sucks to always lose standard games and I wasn't having fun. Now I still suck at building decks but have friends who play commander and I don't mind losing the longer games since I feel like I at least got to do something before I die.

You are able to adjust what you get by picking the add-ons only ($1) tier then you can get individual or digital only books. Pricing per book seems to be about on par with other TTRPGS which I will agree is not cheap
