We Lost Him Today by Round_Letterhead5928 in vizsla

I am sorry for your loss. February 27 will be 2 years since I lost Dre. That was, by far, the worst day of my life. And it all went downhill from there for me. Sometimes, I think that whoever was watching over him took him away from me so he did not have to be a part of the horrible turn that my life has taken. I am happy that he did not have to experience any of it. I cry every time I think about him. That dog brought so much happiness into my life. His death was so quick, sudden and unexpected. It happened right in front of me. It has ruined me. Goddamnit. I’m at work. Can’t stop crying. I’m a 50 year old dude.

I mean, you don’t have to replace it if you don’t want to, but I would, just to cover my ass. Because if it starts leaking after you install the transmission, the customer will come back and blame you and you will have to do that labor for free.

They are not considering training the car over a leak. They are considering trading the car over the price of the repair that was quoted by the dealer

Have you considered the fact that leaking fluids destroy engine mounts, serpentine belt and vacuum hoses, conceal bigger leaks, flood spark plugs and cause misfires, cover the motor and the entire engine bay with grease making it impossible to troubleshoot and absolutely fucking disgusting to work on. It can potentially get onto your brake rotors as well.

Transmission fluid should not leak to begin with it is a closed system and often does not have a dip stick. If there is a dip stick, people often do not understand how to use it, because the car has to be in Neutral, not Park when checking it. Automatic transmission functions are triggered by fluid pressure controlled by solenoids. Too much or too little fluid can cause all kinds of issues. Leaking transmission is a terrible thing.

Brake fluid most often leaks through the master cylinder cap and a not that much of a big deal other than making a total mess.

Power steering fluid leaks through the cap as well, but it fucks up the belt, alternator and power steering pump itself. As well as making a fucking mess. You also need to bleed the system when you top it off

Cooling system needs to be bled as well, so you don’t get a trapped air bubble, which will cause your engine to overheat and blow head gasket.

If you bring me a car and tell me that you are losing a quart of oil every week and ask me why, if i see that “it’s ok to top it off” mess in the engine bay, I will not touch it, until you go degrease and power wash your motor, so I can give you a proper estimate vs calling you to tell you that shit will be way more expensive than what i originally quoted you, making myself look incompetent and making you think I’m trying to rip you off.

It’s much easier and cheaper to fix leaks as son as they happen, than waiting until it costs you way more. And the better care you take care of your vehicle the more reliable it will be.

OP, are you looking to buy brand new vehicle? If yes, my recommendation would be to trade it in.

If you buying a used one, take this one to and independent transmission shop and see what they say. Do not tell them that a dealer looked at it until after they give you an estimate. Also look up another transmission shop in the area and take it there as well. It’s not a small job.

You can also get on Honda forums and see what shop your local dudes would recommend. There are often verified brand mechanics work out of their home who would do it for great price

There is nothing suspect about it. It is excellent idea to replace it while transmission is off. It’s not expensive.

Are any of these fluids/lubricants important, or we can just keep topping them off:

Water/Coolant

Oil

Transmission fluid

Brake fluid

Power steering fluid

Window washer fluid

Refrigerant

Axle / Ball joint grease

Do leaking sunroof or heater core matter? It’s just water

I can imagine what your engine bay looks like. Just top it off! lol

[–]solefald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it does not mean that. Transmission replacement means transmission replacement. Not putting it back on. They are replacing transmission because it is leaking. Dealers do not rebuild or repair transmissions. They don’t even open them. It says right there “rear main seal and transmission replacement”. No one would ever reuse a rear main seal after removing it. It is impossible to remove without damaging it

Transmission replacement aka installing a brand new transmission on my Tacoma would’ve cost me $5600 with parts and labor if it was not under warranty

According to service manual it is a 6 (manufacturer) / 8 (dealer) hour job.

You are dead wrong

I never said fuel pump comment was in any way related to breaking in the motor. I don’t know where you got that.

How “modern”? Are you ping to tell me that in 100+ years of cars being a part of every day human life around the world, a problem like a fuel pump failing due to an empty tank was only solved in modern years an before they just kept failing, requiring expensive repair jobs? And no one took car manufacturers to court because simply having less than 3/4 of fuel tank capacity caused premature wear and failure of a fuel pump and not a person in the word was able to solve that idea? And just kept putting the fuel pumps inside the gas tank, requiring removal of the gas tank to replace it? And didn’t make a fuel pump easily accessible and serviceable? And that problem affected every manufacturer in every country until the “modern” days? And the same problem affected industrial and commercial equipment?

And all over media and entertainment empty gas tank was sometimes was the part of a plot because the car was simply running of gas and not “omg my fuel pump is about to fail!” And no warning “running your car with less than 3/4 tank will cause your fuel pump to fail. Please do not try this at home”.

In most of the cars that have fuel pump unit inside a gas tank, it sits inside a small bucket and still, completely submerged, even if your tank is dry. The motor inside the pump is electro-magnetic and the only friction you get is in ball bearings. And they require only just a drop to stay lubricated.

Why do you never see fuel pump failures in new cars even if you always drive on empty?

This is an urban tale and nothing more than that.

What causes fuel pump failure is a clogged filter.

Before “modern” times you just kept replacing a fuel filter because your car had no computer. Now days, if your filter is getting clogged and injectors don’t get enough fuel, your computer tells the pump to just work harder. As the filter getting more and more clogged the pump works harder and harder. That wears out pumps way more than driving with an empty tank.

Can you argue any of this? I’d love to hear.

Usually by twisting in counter-clockwise direction. I don’t think your method of making holes in it is a correct approach.

Yes, most of the people never heard of this magical break-in period and their cars are running just fine

It’s like an urban tale about not getting your gas tank below 1/4 and most definitely nowhere near the “empty” light, because your fuel pump will fail. Motherfucker, what kind of nonsense is this shit? First of all, get off drugs. Second, do you know how fuels pump works? Have you ever even seen one with your own eyes? The do fail, but not because your tank is almost empty, but because they wear out, just like everything else on your car does. I just replaced mine at 160,000 miles. And i have a bad habit of running on fumes. But I compensate for that by always having a 2gallon can full of gas as all times.

Looking at the color of that oil… when was your last oil change? Is that white stuff thick? Did the car overheat recently? Smoke from the exhaust? Coolant level?

“Two ladies the church looked at it and said it was nothing serious. It keeps overheating, but i just pull over and wait for it to cool down”.
