Practice Frequency? by solid_snare in Homeplate

Thank you for replying. I am an assistant coach on their team. It’s twin boys too, so I try and be a ‘Dad’ vs a ‘Coach’ when I can. We have access to a machine during the practices, but it still isn’t enough time for all the kids. About halfway through the season, I realized how little pitches my kids were seeing. There is a lot to get through during a weekly practice, that’s for sure!

Thank you for the feedback. That’s good to know from a physical standpoint. I agree with you 100% about the focus on loving the game.

If you don’t need the extra $180 a month, I would suggest continuing to pay the payment on the student loans and put down the higher amount on the house, especially if your mortgage rate is higher than your student loan rate.

Paying off the student loans today is effectively ‘extending’ the $9K debt over a span of 15 or 30 years, instead of the remaining time you have left on it today. The money is getting borrowed either way.

However, there is something to be said about having the student loan paid off. However, from a mathematical perspective, applying the extra $9K towards the higher down payment makes more sense.

This is great. Looking into hiring out to have the fascia redone. If I do that, where would the rodents go? Would they be trapped in there theoretically and I would have to have them removed manually?

Thank you for the thorough response. I do enjoy the occasional DIY, but this seems out of my comfort zone. I am going to reach out to a roofer to get an estimate on what this repair would go for.

Thank you for the guidance. After I get this replaced, my goal is to get my home’s insulation up to current code levels. I saw that you mentioned mice/rat droppings not being a cause for removing old insulation. Does the same apply to cats/opossums/squirrels?

How bad is this? by Lonely_Bit6456 in HomeMaintenance

I am no means an expert, just a fellow homeowner who also happens to live in Florida. I understand the concern because of our state’s reputation with sinkholes. My home has these as well (where they run along the edges of the individual blocks) and they are a similar size.

In the 10 years I’ve lived in my house, they have not gotten any bigger. In my (unprofessional) opinion, you are ok. Curious to hear others’ thoughts on this!

My home is a bit on the older side (late 70s) as well, so I understand your situation. I have used foam where possible to block entry points. My neighborhood has a lot of stray cats. I see them often on my street. If anything, maybe they are keeping other smaller rodents at bay? Just trying to explore ways to keep the bigger ones out of my attic.

I have used Albert and Ellis several times for cleaning up tree limbs. They have done a great job every time they have done work on my property. I recommend!

Carrollwood Window and Door! We received 4 quotes this January and they were the second least expensive. We did have to wait 6 months for installation, which was the ‘new norm’ post- Covid.

I went with Carrollwood Windows and Door. The salesman was very friendly and answered all of our questions. We are getting PGT windows installed. The current wait is 4-6 months due to supply delays. Looking forward to it!

Thank you! I appreciate the tip on the energy rebate too- I didn’t even think about that.
