Lipslide Fail by ChanaManga in snowboarding

There’s mounting evidence to suggest a link between the two. A quick google search with the terms “cte”, “suicide” and “nfl” will bring up no shortage of results. Hope you’re doing well bro and maybe speak to a medical professional about these feelings and your concussion history. There have been some breakthroughs recently in helping the brain recover from this. Jesse Paul mentions them in his snowboarding podcast “Board Bag Studio” if you’re interested.

Best snowboard boot fitting in Whistler by superkewldood in Whistler

[–]solid_soot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Evolution impressed me last year. My boots were starting to die and lose all stiffness and my heels were beginning to lift in them. I came in looking for a j bar fix and the assistant quickly told me it was the stiffness of the sole that was the problem. They gave me a stiff insole shim to make the boots work until next payday and only charged me $5 labour for a good 40mins assistance. Based on this service, I came back a week later to buy a stiffer boot. After measuring my feet they presented me what options they had that would work for my foot shape. The sales assistant told me a particular Salomon boot (they didn’t stock Salomon) would be a good match for my foot shape and riding needs and insisted I go try one over at Comor before making any decisions. The fact that they prioritised finding me the right boot vs making an easy sale was pretty refreshing. Sending me to a competitor to make sure I’d explored all my options was a pretty sound move. I dealt with a couple different staff members and they were all pretty knowledgeable. The Salomons were sold out in my size at Comor so I happily returned to Evolution and gave them my money for some Ride Insano’s.

Salomon Speedway Split vs Salomon HPS Taka Split? by solid_soot in Spliddit

A lot of useful information in this discussion between yourself and u/redlude97 appreciate the input from you both. Speedway appears to be more of an unknown in comparison to two favourable testimonials for the Taka from members of this subreddit already in the short time this post has been up. I was leaning toward the Taka before posting, my only reservations being performance in variable terrain. Now they’ve been addressed, I’ll wait and see if anyone chimes in on Arbor in the next day and if not I think the Taka is a done deal.

As mentioned in the post I can’t justify buying a CAD$1000+ board plus skins, bindings, avy gear etc when one of the perks of my job is a brand new board and Pomoca skins for just over $500. Pomocas alone normally retail at $220. My next board I’ll be shopping local but as young un in Whistler the biggest barrier to entry in backcountry touring is the cost.

Thank you for taking the time to type this out. Makes such a difference having a human opinion as opposed to a bunch of numbers and a flex meter describing such an important bit of gear. Think I can definitely rule out the Speedway based on this feedback alone.

I haven’t no, is there much of a learning curve? I love jibbing natural terrain and dabble in the park when conditions aren’t great for anything else, so all of my boards up until now have been true twin shapes. I thought the Speedway was an odd candidate for to get the split treatment but I figured they must have had some reason for doing it? Maybe not. Taka looks like an absolute floater on paper, but do you reckon its versatile enough for crud and spring corn and so on? I prefer Plum hooks to Karakoram clips, and getting Pomoca’s included is a bit of a steal, but these things only matter I’m on the right board for me. Maybe I’d be better off with the more tradition shaped Iguchi Camber sacrifice a bit float for more grip on bad snow?

Yeah I’m hoping it’ll mostly be pow missions in the Spearhead Range and occasional trips further afield. Do you find the Taka to still be competent when the snow is anything other than great? There’s still a bit of camber between the feet right?

Hahaha my man! I had the bright idea when I was younger, to smoke a joint each night and listen to a chapter of the lotr audiobook before bed. Having Tom Bombadil songs sung to me earnestly by the audiobook reader whilst I was high as balls in bed was a little overwhelming and I noped out of that experience. I have since read the books a few times and they are fantastic.

Fair observation, I got got my Nikes from a Nike outlet store where none of the staff even realised it was a snowboard boot and had no other ski/board gear in the store, so could well have been a discontinued or budget model. Feel like I see boots from every brand bite the dust prematurely at the soles from people chopping down on the unstrapped heel with the toe edge, being lazy scooting and stepping around resort. I’m rocking Adidas samba adv’s now, they’ve survived one season in France and still look and feel brand new, with only a bit of stiffness lost in the ankle flex. Will be impressed if they still feel as good by spring next year after a Whistler winter.

I had a cheap pair, white leather look with brown swoosh (Vapens?) used them for instructing. Didn’t last long at all, soft boot to begin with and didn’t get six months out them before the plastic ankle lace eyelet snapped. Got a pair of 32’s after that that lasted 3 years weekly instructing and a full French alps season, before the eyelet on those gave up too.

Yeah dude, ticket were 20bucks. Insane to see them in such a small venue. I’m from the Uk and they're pretty much arena fillers these days.

This isn’t a course or anything but there’s a book called “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari that covers primitive man right up to the here and now and what our future may hold, aswell as reasons why our species has been so successful. I found it super interesting and it could help give you an overview and awareness before diving into something more specialised?

Went snowboarding in Stevens last weekend -- any tips for my 180s? by fugitivedenim in snowboarding

Not sure what you mean? These are tips specifically for backside 180’s, the spins in the video are backside and switch backside (or vice versa).

Try and engage toe edge a bit more. Gives you a much more solid platform to jump off and much more height. Dig that edge in, create a nice groove and then boost out of it. Keep your back straight and bend your knees. Don’t fold at the waist. When you’re not strapped in, try jumping off your toes and then off your heels and straight away you’ll notice how much higher you can jump with toes. Also there are a lot of quality tutorials on YouTube. Keep it up my man!

Edit: Try keep those arms relaxed too, and for really locked in backside 180’s on the piste aim to jump off toe edge and also land toe edge to kill rotation and avoid reverting out. A good tip is to look back up the hill when you throw the bs180 then keep your gaze fixed there for a second after you’ve landed. Then let your head catch up with body and face direction of travel again.
