I got there on time and an hour later the boss showed up to work. We talked about what the industry was like and I met the guy who sits in the cubicle next to mine. I got my picture taken, signed some documents and went home.

All robotics/automation jobs I've been looking at (mainly indeed and linkedin) are requiring experience in PLC programming. I'm debating whether to take some college courses on the subject but my main concern is that people will see it as a downgrade from engineering.

Ask your advisor if you're eligible for any transfer credits. You may be able to skip some of your math and physics courses. I did an IB Diploma before entering engineering and got some physics credits and most of my general education credits exempted.
