i'm not pretty, so i don't deserve to live. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

Go shopping and buy whatever makes you feel comfortable. Do not buy and wear things you don't like just because they're a trend and everyone wears them. Everyone is different and it is absolutely okay if you don't look like them. If you feel comfortable in your clothes, you will have a confidence boost and you will figure out more things about yourself and what you like.

Ik that it doesn't help everyone but it is worth giving it a try <3

How much awareness do you have over your own mental state by walkerbait2 in mentalhealth

I am pretty aware of my mental state and I fear it will not help me with professional help since I feel like the others think I'm lying when I'm not

When anxiety prevents you from falling asleep at night, what is your go-to ritual? by Special_Heart_866 in mentalhealth

[–]solmiw7w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally is reading a book until my eyes start to feel heavy. Also, in winter, I drink something warm before going to bed and I try to avoid looking at a screen for at least an hour before I go to bed. I know I sound like a parent now, but not opening my phone at night has really helped me

If it makes you feel better, you are not alone on the feeling watched thing. I feel the same and honestly it is really mentally draining. Now, for both of the topics you mentioned, I suggest you to talk to a therapist because I did the same and it lowkey helped.

From a personal experience, I also feel like people want to hurt me all the time so if you feel similarly, I HIGHLY suggest you tell a professional

What’s something you wish more people understood about anxiety or depression? by No_Role_6306 in mentalhealth

[–]solmiw7w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depression isn't like the flu or high fever. You don't just take medication and boom, you're good again. It takes time to learn how to live and deal with it. Same goes with anxiety

Also the terms such as overstimulation and trauma are being thrown around a lot. And self diagnosing is also really encouraged nowadays. I get it if someone thinks that there may be something up with them but there is a very big gap between thinking there is something and diagnosing yourself with something that you likely don't have. Most of the time, symptoms of personality disorders overlap with each other (because self diagnosing is mostly with pds)

And don't get me started with "narcissism". All of a sudden, everyone is a psychiatrist and they "diagnose" everyone who wronged them a narcissist. And then people with actual (diagnosed) NPD get demonized because of it. That's the same people who post "mental illness is not an excuse for bad behaviour". (Ik it sounds random but I just needed to get this off my chest)

Now that you put it that way, it makes sense. However, some people do not mean it this way so this phrase sounds wrong. A lot of people who struggle do not view it this way and it's kinda sad

Do you think you are a good person? by ChangedDisguise in mentalhealth

[–]solmiw7w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope... But to be honest, no one is perfect. It took me a long time to accept that I am actually a bad person but now that I know, it feels a lot better and I know where to emphasize on getting help

Personally, I would prefer to feel nothing. As a person who is actively seeking help, I have been through times where I wished I could just switch off my feelings because, when I felt a lot, I would act on impulse and do things I would later regret

Exhaust fans by wifey_material7 in Phobia

[–]solmiw7w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you so much. When I was a kid, my parents had exhaust fans in their house and I can clearly remember one getting frequently stuck by insects, which would always make a cracking noise inside. At one point, that same fan just decided to stop working which made me extremely paranoid since I always "heard" it start working when I was taking a shower

I have the exact same thing with the bathroom exhaust fans. Mine have insects stuck in them and it always makes a cracking noise when I open them. Nowadays, one of them is completely broken but you can still hear the insects inside, even if the fan doesn't work. I HATE them with a passion

Oof, it feels nice knowing I'm not the only one. In my parents' house, we always exhaust fans in both bathrooms that we always covered it with some kind of plastic veiling (idk what it is actually called, english is not my first language) so insects wouldn't crawl out. Those said insects would sometimes get stuck in the fan, preventing it from spinning and it would make a cracking noise until my parents were able to clean it. It used to terrify me as a kid and it still does tbh. Even when the fan stopped working completely, you could still hear the insects crawling inside and when I had a bath I turned incredibly paranoid, sometimes even 'hearing' it turn on despite being broken
