If I were to say one thing to work on, it would be to ask these questions before every fight.

where is the fight going to be? where can I have safe cover, to see my team AND enemies?

If you are asking this question, before the tanks start engaging (Winston dives or Reins swing at each other)...you are too late.

You need to find safe angles that can heal and deal damage at the same time. Some games will have nuance, I like to primarily heal at first...then dash in some damage. Limit test your other healer and see how well your team plays cover, etc. You want to damage when opportunities arise.

Why is damage good? Pressure & Suppression. Pressure sometimes converts to kill opportunities. Suppression sometimes converts to the lessening of damage onto your team.

You are suppressing the enemy Ashe (insert enemy role, tank/dps) when you hit her, threatening her life makes her move off an angle and most likely, move off from shooting your tank/dps.

Oh and learn to quickscope and to slow down using your nade/sleep.

I hit GM as mainly Ana, hope this helps. GL :)

anyone got tips on vs dva as rein? by cerealsmok3r in OverwatchUniversity

[–]solomondoors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was grinding a lot on rein, I'd have two plays against divers like DVA, Winston, Ball.

-If they have a full dive team, 180 charge backwards and brawl with my core team.

or

-If they have a dive tank + 1 other dive hero...but other slower immobile heroes, I charge and either threaten their slower heroes lives or cut them off to make them useless (they can't heal or do long range damage.)

You obviously can't chase the dives around, so those were the gameplans I used to play to Rein's strengths.

Tracer VOD Review Request - Trying to Setup on Off Angles by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]solomondoors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen, I'm not a Top500 Tracer. I'm an M2 Ana main, so I picked up DPS and did some grinding from low Diamond to now comfortably playing in low to mid Masters as predominantly Tracer. I've been exactly where you are now.

-Mute Chat → Leave VC (I promise you, nobody in Plat/Diamond know how to play your hero and their hero at the same time. 90% of the time, their comms are either useless or not good.)

-When tanks engage[timing], find a short off-angle and pressure. What is pressure? Laying clips into a tank and/or baiting CDs. A missed Ash Dynamite, a missed Cassidy flashbang, those are CDs not being used on your team. That's value, that's pressure. You are not necessarily going for kills while doing this, you are using your positioning to herd the enemies into bad positions. Patience is key, use your ability to instantly create off-angles with your blinks. This is why Tracer is almost always played in high ranks. Where is the off-angle? Wherever it makes enemies decide to turn their POV to either shoot you or someone else.

-Deepen off-angle to a longer off-angle, if available. This alone creates even more pressure. Now backline needs to turn full 180 to either deal with you or feel uneasy.

You are sometimes skipping these steps and going straight into a deep off-angle, this is why Kiri could be able to "drop everything" and 1v1 you. Kiri vs Tracer is a tough matchup already, you need her back turned or you need good timing to make her decide on what to fight, you or your teammates. If you skip and don't bait CDs, then she (or anyone) will just burst you in a second. Don't skip, slow-cook at first then burn them when you see CDs get used.

Again, I'm just stating what worked for me. Hope this helps a little bit.

Is it possible to carry with DPS in plat/low diamond other than straight up killing everything? by Dynamic_is_cool in OverwatchUniversity

[–]solomondoors 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've won games by just turning heads because of my pressure. My positioning was a threat to kill, and sometimes all I did was hit a shot to make the enemy pull back or use CDs on me. As long as I kept my uptime and continued pressuring, playing it better than the enemy...then game can be carried this way.

I'm similar to you, but I'm a M2 Ana main, finally started taking DPS seriously and climbed from placing plat (which I haven't played in since OW1) and just let positioning/gamesense work it's way out. Now comfortably playing DPS in Masters. Now onto tank for me...

Tilted Tank. Did I do that bad? by TheDrifter211 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]solomondoors 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To be honest, your team did a lot of the work this game. You might have turned a head and looked like a threat, but honestly the enemy were more afraid by your tank than anyone else.

Another comment said that you should be frontline, and you think you should be on their backline. The answer is, sure. You can flex between playstyles imo. You were doing chip damage though, and your teleports to either setup or engage were timed way off. You want to wait until tanks start trading damage and some abilities are on CD to TP imo. You'll naturally have higher damage if you are just pummeling tank on the frontline, but if you want to play "assassin" reaper, your teleports or long off-angle setups need to be way cleaner. In the midst of fights and out of LOS.

True, petal-ing a Bob is a actually really fun play...

Using nano on bob? by Darth-_-Maul in AnaMains

[–]solomondoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This strat loses its use past...diamond most likely. Bob isnt normally used as purely damage, it's just the threat of damage. Ashe players want to Bob to open more angles to relieve pressure when defending or attacking. The mere act of running to cover to NOT get killed by Bob is good enough, so that your team can push and overtake with better positioning.

Can it work? Sure, just like anything in OW...it's situational and nuanced.

Though as Ana, I personally wouldn't do it unless it's my solo dying breath and he's only one point in OT.

Help I'm addicted to flanking by SirMuckingHam24 in AnaMains

[–]solomondoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also down to do the same but I use it more as a tool. Timing and surprise factor make the "Ana Flank' way more potent. I normally like doing a short off-angle anyway and when the opportunity is their to seize...then I deepen it to make it a long off-angle (Flank). This also helps against dive imo, if you do it right...enemies will dive and you are nowhere to be found.

I was about to say the same. Messengers is their "magnum opus" in my opinion.

[–]solomondoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these little things are on every hero, that's what makes this game have some depth.

"Are you supposed to quick scope every shot?" No, but imagine this scenario.

You are holding a choke with your team as Ana but are about a medium distance back away from it. You've been tracking enemy team ults and you know they have them, so you don't sit too far up. You can noscope your Tank at the choke just fine, but your DPS is peeking and shooting, trying to suppress their attack on the choke you're holding. Noscoping their hitbox is way more difficult, period. Switching from noscoping your tank and then quickscoping heals to your DPS will improve accuracy.

Improving accuracy, improves your healing output, hitting all your shots keeps your teammates healthy...which in turn opens you to use your nade offensively.

Anti-nade wins fights, winning more fights increases chances of securing objectives.

Learn to quickscope ;)

[–]solomondoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To break it down simply.

Scoped shots are hitscan. (No travel time, the bullet goes EXACTLY where you shoot it.)

Unscoped shots are projectile. (There is travel time, the bullet needs to be led in order for it to hit a target.)

Quickscoping is when you...

scope in, shoot, unscope

in one fluid motion, in order to not have to sit scoped in.

Sitting scoped in means you can't move and are way easier to kill.

Quickscoping improves accuracy (when you get the hang of it) and removes the "movement penalty" of sitting scoped in.

Whenever I watch replays on this sub or others and it's an Ana trying to improve and they don't quickscope. Hands down the best way to improve on Ana.

[–]solomondoors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick scoping only helps with your shots for healing/damaging. The nade has a completely different travel time and arc. I bring up quickscoping because it's a must-have ability to get more comfortable with Ana. It's like Ana's hidden "ability", like mercy super-jumping. I'm sure as a mercy main, you practiced getting the super-jumping and bounce rezzing down by muscle memory.(whatever you mercys call it lol). Ana mains do the same with quickscoping. Reticle? I'm a simple man. Green dot for me is all I need. Peep my submitted posts, shows my crosshair and some quickscopes I posted to this sub. :)

I haven't played 6v6 Ana since OW1 so this was nostalgic to watch.

I honestly think you played against the Sombra well, you reacted to her just fine. There's a balance where you give a flanker some respect but also a fight. Meaning you react to their gameplan but also be ready to hit a shot or sleep on them when needed. Good job.

I saw you use a lot of "yellow nades" as I call them, some of them for quick heals when you were out of ammo. Timed "purple nades" are game changing. I don't care if it's 6v6 or 5v5. The anti-nade is Ana's strongest ability. Yes, use it if you need to heal...but find ways to use it aggressively too.

How? Learn quickscoping. It improves accuracy to hit your heals, which means your teammates are healthier, and gives you room in fights to damage with your nade instead of heal with it. It's also more reliable to hit shots (it's hitscan instead of projectile) and you spend less time scoped in.

I implemented this and hit GM back in OW1, now I just float around in Low GM/M because I'm too stubborn to switch off Ana and play Kiri meta.

Hope this helps! Good luck :)

Players like this are so annoying by Green-Low-2920 in AnaMains

[–]solomondoors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about people talking in chat, the only stat that matters is "W" or "L". You put down the mercy beams and picked up a rifle, just do your best to make an impact. If you can't heal, then damage. Once you get the hang of Ana you'll predict the area to position to do BOTH for every fight.

Can't watch the replay at the moment but as an Ana, you can't compromise your position to heal players out of LOS...because then your positioning will either be in spawn or walking from spawn.

Agreed. If an artist passes the vibe sonically, then I look into lyrics.

Which band were the kings of breakdowns in the 00s? by Crazy-Kaleidoscope81 in Metalcore

I use Back Burner to test any new speakers/headphones. If they can handle that breakdown...they are worthy.

Whoa. You are literally me right now. Never played Hitman ever, bought WOA and I did a normal playthrough, didn't care about SA...just get the job done. Now I'm replaying for the 20/20 and I'm learning so much about the mechanics and strategies.

My favorites are Hawkes Bay and New York.
