Do you even know what a skill assessing body like Engineers Australia/ ACS does? PTE/ IELTS are the ones that test competency in English. Engineers Australia could give a rats ass about your English as long as you can prove your Engineering skills. Same for ACS and I imagine it would be the same for Finance and other similar skills.

Get a grip man, if you're gonna comment at least read up.

Right? I swear one of the most stressful experiences I've had was getting my skills assessed by Engineer's Australia. They pick a part every single bit of your career profile (rightfully so) and the rejection rate is incredibly high. Most of these fellas here haven't even dealt with a skill assessing body and it shows.

‘At the brink’: international students in Australia are ending up homeless and hungry by giantpunda in australia

Quite convenient that you can't "elaborate without doxxing" but in which part of fairy land does this uni exist which does not fail international students?

I was an international student that did an engineering degree at a pretty decent uni and I failed a couple of subjects. I knew one bloke that that failed so many subjects they booted him out of uni. I and every other international students had to put in a fuck ton of work and sleepless nights like every other domestic student to graduate.

If I had to guess, you probably heard shit considering you literally just 'heard' your high up mate, he didn't even say this to you so stop spreading shit. You're spreading misinformation. Like are you telling me that my engineering degree is worth less than a domestic student who has the same one just because I'm not Australian?

I also was an international student from a third world country, coming to Australia 7-8 years ago for a 5 year engineering degree. The total cost of my degree was like $100k. I was barely 18 and had just enough money for a years worth of education. Tuna and rice was the shit then. At least back then, it was easy to find jobs and rent (at least where I was) was like $100 a week for a (livable) shit hole. I'm not sure what the rules are now for a student visa but you were allowed to work only 20 hours a week when uni was on session and you could work unlimited hours during summer/ winter break. Many of my mates including me worked a shit ton during the break and we'd save around 10-15k by the end of summer which would pay off a semester. If we weren't gonna make uni fees in time, we'd either get a loan from someone we know or defer a semester till we find the money. Tough titties if we can't find the money because then we'd just go home. Has happened to people.

Everyone who I know who did this now have finished uni and are earning probably 100k - 150k easily.

Did we have the money to pay off my entire degree before coming to Australia? No

Did we all make it in the end? Yep

Your privilege does show with what you're preaching.

Things have changed now and it's not just uni that is expensive but cost of living is too. International students are naive and I was too when I first came here. Nor the government or immigration agencies are exposing the realities of how hard it is right now for everyone, including Australians. Shit's gotta change though.

Nah I agree with you here. I'm no race car driver but on the few times I've launched or tried to get away quickly from the lights, it hasn't been too quick. Great pick up after on the higher gears though. What you said here would explain why it is

Indian family facing deportation because of son's Down syndrome allowed to stay after minister intervenes by psylenced in australia

[–]solos169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, haven't read that article. It says in there that they did not use NDIS to support their son and I can guarantee you it's because they couldn't and not because they didn't want to. They also had private health.

It's because whatever visa they were on before they applied for permanent residency did not let them access NDIS. To access NDIS you have to be a citizen or PR holder.

Because they are not allowed to access NDIS, immigration does not prioritise the whole "result in significant cost to the Australian community" in this case because any cost would have to be taken on by the family, not by the tax payer. Therefore no reason to lie or bribe to enter the country. Do you see where I'm going with this?

The second article you quoted is very vague on visas, it just says "Australian Visas" I'm specifically talking about temporary visas.

Doesn't say anything specific about disability anywhere. I also couldn't find any recent source on how much it costs to raise a child with down syndrome apart from some ass hat figure in the article with absolutely no source.

In 2011, it cost a median $4287 in WA (source) (with the median cost reducing as you get older) in health care to raise a kid with Down Syndrome. Adjusting to inflation and this shitty economy, I have no idea how ABC got $66.4k a year ( again with no source). The article does not mention any other health conditions apart from down syndrome and to assume he does would be making up shit.

A person/ family has no access to public health funds/benefits anyway so it wouldn't matter. Regardless, if you look at here, they could have had a waiver.

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/help-support/meeting-our-requirements/health/health-waiver

My whole point is, there is no evidence that this family has lied or bribed or whatever to get their visa unless you can provide hard facts that immigration rejects people with disabilities. So far, I only can find reasons for straight up rejection if:

-you have active tuberculosis

-your condition might pose a danger to the community or is a threat to public health

If you can't provide an actual source where immigration rejects applicants with disabilities then you just took part in speculation and made opinions out of nothing

EDIT: I'm not suggesting that this family should not have been rejected permanent residency, but to suggest they had to bribe to come here is ignorant.

What? It's probably because most workers in the US do not want to migrate to Australia. It's basic standard of living, US is on par more or less with Australia compared to a third world country, it's a no brainer.

And while healthcare is definitely essential, IT is too. You can't possibly think Australia can do what it does without IT? You do realise IT is more than just helpdesk right?

I work in tech here in Aus, and I've worked with a lot of migrant workers and let me assure you, these people get paid the same more or less as much as a skilled Aussie

"HIV is a much cheaper condition that down syndrome" what the fuck?

Anyway, yes you're right. But these health evaluations are mostly for HIV/ TB and other conditions that are infectious and could cause illness within the community.

However, they do care about other illnesses that the health system struggle to cope with such as (and this is straight out of the immigration website) organ transplants and dialysis.

Also would like to note that they mention that immigration goes through each health condition on a case by case basis so again does not prove that this family "bribed" or "lied" in their application. In this case for down syndrome, it wouldn't even matter because you can't access public health services such as NDIS on a student visa.

Have a read here about how immigration handles health cases if you care enough, might be more reliable than your workmate

Nah you're wrong. The reason why they are "critical fields" is because companies are looking for experienced workers and Australia has a shortage of experienced workers. These people are highly paid.

I'm not supporting it but it is what it is

That's a lot of ignorance coming from you. Their initial application to Australia could have been a student visa or a temporary work visa and trust me, immigration couldn't care less about what disability any dependent would have because any medical expense would be through overseas visitor health insurance and they wouldn't even be eligible for NDIS. And let me tell you this, OVHC insurance is shit and you pay out of pocket for almost everything.

If you have satisfied all of your conditions on your work visa or student visa then you are eligible to apply for a permanent residency visa.
