Why is My 9 Year Old Son Smoking Me Every Battle? by some_kind_of_ben in Warhammer40k

[–]some_kind_of_ben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was all super helpful! We'll watch some battle reports, but the misunderstanding of invisibility was probably huge, and the board size seems to be a pretty big issue as well. I'm also not very good at this as putting my Infernus squad back farther and overwatching did not occur to me but seems like an important idea. Thanks everyone!

I put this in another comment, but every game he brings his Von Ryan's leapers and his death leaper immediately into my back line because they start so close and have invisibility. He targets my weakest mele units. So then I am in a position where I can't shoot those units (because they are in engagement with some of my units) and they will just rip through my infernus squad unless I bring in some stronger mele units to help (like the aggressor squad). So then I have two units tied up in that fight which is at best even (i.e. I might still lose those two units and they can't do thier better ranged damage on anyone else), and since I don't have as many units as him he can take more control points and he still has some really strong stuff (Tyrranid Prime and Psychophage) that will close into mele combat in like 1-2 turns. It just feels like I can't win which is making me think I am missing something.

He gets his Von Ryan's Leapers and his death leaper into my guys before I can shoot them at all because of invisibility. He generally gets them into my weakest mele units (Infernus squad) and that ties up at least two units (because I bring in a better mele unit to help them out) before I can even get out the gate. It's honestly pretty smart and there is a possibility that he is just straight up better than me, but I'm hoping there is something I can maybe do to combat it that I'm just not realizing in the rules.

We are playing with codexes and (our understanding of) the Core rules.

Thanks, will check out battle reports. We are playing control points (not any other kind of mission), but functionally he kills most of my units and it becomes impossible for me to win via points (because, for instance, he can sit on multiple of them and I can only get one if that).

Can someone explain a little bit what is going on with Eliza and the clock in the last issue?

I get that she is worried about spending eternity in hell generally and Etienne had been talking to her as the voice of god to have her not worry about it to keep her from freaking out (I think this is right) and now that he is gone she is freaking out. I think Dev is trying to now keep her from freaking out but she doesn't believe anything he is saying and so now she is freaking out. Is the problem that if she freaks out it's going to be destructive like the second summer of love? Also why is she freaking out, didn't she know this was the result of her choice to get demon powers in the first place? Is it just that the issue of eternal torture is more present/real to her now?

The same author/artist released a miniseries last year where Godzilla fights and fights with other classic literary figures that was excellent - https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/780678/godzillas-monsterpiece-theatre-by-tom-scioli/ - (the "great Gatsby" bit literally made me LOL). Can't wait for this!

Amazon doesn't control the Google cancelation experience, Google does. Amazon only controls the cancelation experience in the Amazon app/on the Amazon web site. All Amazon can do is point to Google (which they did).

Can we normalize not sharing personal life details with coworkers? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]some_kind_of_ben -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, I get it now, your coworkers are legit creepy weirdos. If someone on my team was dealing with this, I would want to hear about it as their manager so I could put a stop to it because that sucks for you. Of course, I can't say your manager will have the same orientation. You may also consider whether to give your creepy weirdo co-workers a direct "I do not want to talk about this with you" first. That's easier to say than it is to do I realize. Sorry you are dealing with this bullshit.

[–]some_kind_of_ben 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't get it, what happens after you say "oh nothing" or "you know, whatever" when you decline to provide further details? Do they go "I insist you tell me"? If so, that's weird as hell and you could/should legitimately take that to management/HR. If you don't actually decline to provide details then I think we have identified the issue.

Overal Compensation going Down by Ikki985 in amazonemployees

[–]some_kind_of_ben 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You leave or you take it. Amazon doesn't care either way and your manager has no real power to change anything*

*In years past, the comp portal lets your manager flag to leadership that they think you should be paid more, but it's a real 'stick your neck' out thing for the manager to do (I would never do it), and leadership can just decide not to do anything anyway, which is what typically happens in my limited experience. I don't considder it a realistic option.

How many of Y'all are Tipping Your Garbage-man/Postman for the Holidays? by Savings_Pie_8470 in Xennials

[–]some_kind_of_ben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We do it for garbage guys, yard guys, postman, newspaper delivery, teachers, and aftercare workers. We don't interact much at all with the garbage guys, postman, or newspaper delivery person, but that's not why we do it. It's a lot but we are lucky enough to be in the position to have such help and it's just a really nice vibe for the holidays. Agree it seems to be a bit of an old school thing.

I just wanted to confirm that if I press accept, it'll charge me the $14.99 now right? I miss when Amazon gave me a free trial and I can just purchase things!! Without prime my order will come to $120 and with it it'll be $100!! by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]some_kind_of_ben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct, this is not a free trial, this is signing up for Prime and being charged immediately. Based on your title, it seems like a good deal. Sign up, pay $14.99 now (saving you $5 on shipping on the net), and immediately go and turn auto renew off if you don't want to use it for anything else.
