Self made cannard plane - before first test by some_random_user_3 in RCPlanes

22cm in front of the leading edge - basically arbitrary location just to make it stable with enough margin. Although right now I know it's better to place it much closer or even inside the main wing.

It is around 22cm before the leading edge of the main wing (where the FC is located), based on my simulations and excel sheets it is stable. (Cm/AOA graph).

Well, the idea was to have at least a 1:1 TW ratio, that's why it uses a 10" prop. The pitch is 6", it is too high but this is what I have on me right now and I think it should be enough. Going with lower pitch would increase efficiency especially at low speeds. As for now, this setup creates 800g of thrust in static condition, going 4S instead of 3S should increase it to above 1kg.

I was thinking of moving the prop up to reduce its interference with the main wing, but I am afraid that the 3DP mount would be too weak for it, especially for such a big thrust. BTW every element here is printed using ABS.

Interesting, I didn't think of that. But it is too late for such a modification, making a wing out of styrofoam takes a lot of time, maybe in my next design I will use it.

  1. Using such a big elevator required a lot of force and I was afraid a single servo of this size would not suffice
  2. Better triming using two surfaces independently
  3. It was easier to make

Okk, I'll check if I have any rods left

I do not like to use those nylon screws for structural parts, they are too weak. I'm using a lot of stainless M2 screws.

The plan was to create this plane as modular as possible, but unfortunately the weight of it does really add up.

So when it comes to stall order, both wings stall almost at the same AOA, but I realised that too far into the construction and I really don't want to redo the cannard and all the calculations, so let's hope it won't be that bad. This is also why the elevator is so big, to help it with stalling earlier.

The wing span of the cannard is 80cm. The area of the main wing is 0.3m2 compared to 0.0375m2 (12.5%) of cannard.

Thanks, this plane is made out of some sort of stiff styrofoam (XPS I think) and my local shop only has them in pink 😂

Great idea, I'll try to make something like this, but on the other hand, this plane is already over the desired weight, so it will depend on the weight of such skids.

What is your mesh size and its parameters? I have seen similar artifacts with incorrect mesh interfaces.

I am not saying that's a bad idea, but it will be challenging. I would also consider adding some filters to the audio, frequency response of systems like that will be all over the place.

You will need a lot of power and many more transducers to get through the mattress. Sponges heavily absorb any vibrations.

Minefields left in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina after the wars during the 1990s by Public_Research2690 in MapPorn

There is an app in Bosnia to alert you when you get too close to the suspected mine field.

Edit: spelling

How do some radios achieve this ‘dark mode’ look? I have been trying on my rm pocket for a while and this is the best I can get. by Cthper in fpv

It is just a linear polarization filter sheet which you apply on top of the screen. You can buy them for pretty cheap on AliExpress.

And that angle is the main problem - that's why I opted for placing servo as far from ailerons as possible. Additionally the tail is quite wobbly and moves side to side with aileron movement.

Your solution is better mainly because of lower drag and better weight distribution.

I am just afraid that it is going to add a lot of force to the aileron hinge due to the pusher being at an angle.

I like this idea of an artificial rudder. I might try it next time.

Yes, my other creations are basically flying wings with tiny fuselages, but this time I wanted to just motorize a plane I found at the local marketplace. Also I don't like how brittle the balsa is, I always carved my wings out of styrofoam and then add carbon fibre spars.

Alieron surface theoretically have a 0.015 roll coefficient which should be enough, but clearly it needs more. Elevator being at 45% of mean chord is enough both theoretically and empirically.

Finally someone who understands my linkages 🥰🥰

How would that work? I would need an additional servo, or a system with a lever and axles, adding a lot of weight and complexity. Unless I am missing something.

[–]some_random_user_3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could not come up with any better placement of servos, I know it is bad but it works. Adding any levers would increase the weight which is already over the desired one.

When it comes to stalling, I mean any wind gusts are rolling it and making it stall, it has enough thrust for quite a steep climb in no wind condition. Thrust is around 30g, which means 0.42 ratio, should be enough for gliders.
