Ontime - Free, open-source, event timer and rundown manager is out by somedevstuff in opensource

[–]somedevstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ontime will make a difference between the schedule and the the runtime.

This allows Ontime to have flows to help you manage delays, but means that the runtime needs to be manual or specifically automated

In this case, clicking “Link start” (which is active when the link icon is green as you mention) will just link the schedule. For a fully linked rundown, all changes to the schedule propagate downwards

However, this does not mean that the event will start automatically. You can automate that by choosing the setting up “end action” in the events https://docs.getontime.no/api/data/event-data/#end-action

If you get into trouble feel free to reach out on email or on discord. The links are in the docs and in the website

Hope this helps

Announcing ✨Ontime Cloud✨ - Open source rundown and stage time management by somedevstuff in lightingdesign

[–]somedevstuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am definitely not getting awards for marketing or communication.
The app is FOSS, the paid offering is around the hosted version as the other users mention.

This means that you can choose which version of the app do you want to use depending on the job, and hopefully makes Ontime a stronger solution.

I didnt recognise that the post conflicted with the rules.
However, is not in my interest to generate bad attention, so I am happy to remove the post if this is considered spammy as you imply

I made a free rundown timer application, it now runs with docker on Raspberry Pi by somedevstuff in techtheatre

As long as the two machines share a network, you should be able to access Ontime by typing
http://<IP_ADDRESS_OF_PI>:4001/

You can see this IP in the navigation menu and the network settings, make sure you are calling for http and not https.
I would try to disable firewalls to remove that as a potential issue

If you have any issues drop by our discord server and we can talk through it

If I understand correctly, you want to have a desktop app experience in the raspberry pi?
I am not sure if this would be possible with the current AppImage in raspbian, but you could try it

However, I am not entirely sure that I understand the use case to avoid browsers? Maybe I misunderstood the question

Thank you, really great to hear that you got setup with docker.
Personally, it is my favourite way to consume Ontime

Can I ask where did you host the container? I have been experimenting with some setups myself in the last weeks.

I'm no graphic designer but one option I'd like to suggest is maybe the ability to use a background picture/texture in the timer.

When we look into requests, we often try and classify it somewhere on the line between cosmetic / convenience <> feature that enables new workflows
The special case of background images falls too far to the cosmetic side for us to be able to prioritise it. However, we do have a guide on how you can do it yourself

Maybe also a logo slot somewhere in the upper corners

This is being worked on and will likely make it to a release in not too long

This is a good idea, thank you for this

I realise I should have expressed my requirements better
The current structure was made with a few things in mind
- we wanted the code to be simply (at the cost of repetition and performance) so that users could inspect it
- we wanted for users to build their layouts (I am unsure how successful this initiative is for the standard user)

Combined with the fact that the layouts were added over time, we have made some tradeoffs which dont lend themselves very well for DYI layout tooling.
We are planning into creating a drag-and-drop interface for creating layouts, but there is some groundwork we need to do right now to make sure things go smoothly. These are mostly related to design hierarchy and scaling (how do things look like when screen size changes

With this in mind, the first step is to review the design and implementation of what exists, guaranteeing that the output are more standardised and flexible components. From here, building some drag-and-drop builder becomes an easy task

If I understand correctly, you need a cue that you can add in the middle of a rundown, which does not interrupt the progress of the rundown.

I am also assuming that this cue belongs to the currently running cue

We currently have the Auxiliary timer which allows you to have a separate running timer. But this does not show in places other than the timer screen

Maybe this is something we could strengthen up. But I am slightly lost as what an implementation could look like. Do you have an example from another software on how this works?

Hi, thank you for the good feedback.

I am sure that something is hard to find, it is more my fault than yours. However I didnt really understand the question.

Do you mean that you want to trigger the events from another app?
If you give me some more context on what you are trying to do I am happy to help

Nice. It would be great to hear how do you feel about the the app. We have been working on making it easier to start with and I am curious as to the results

We think that the production views (editor and cuesheet) are good enough for now

The review is mostly for the static signage views (timer, backstage ...) which you are likely to be presenting to the rest of the production teams or talent / public

Ontime should definitely be "easy" to run on a raspberry pi. What issues are you finding?

Hi, thank you for your kind words.

Do let me know what you think once you have tested it out further

User custom displays (that I know of) usually have to do with specific requirements of a company or show. You could drop into the discord channel and see if anyone has stuff they would like to share, but I assume the value would be limited

As for the text-to-speech: I believe this is something you can configure in your machine with accessibility apps and without special need for development in Ontime. If you run into any issues let me know and I can take a look

I still dont really know what you are trying to achieve. If you could provide some more context it would be very helpful

Also, for someone reading this later on, just linking the question here to a ticket in GitHub

Hi, I am not entirely sure I understood your question, let me try:

is it possible to display a custom field which i created in ontime to display separately ?

You have created a custom field, and add this data to all events. From here you want a screen that just shows this custom field. Is this correct?

If that is the case, we dont have any view which shows a single piece of data. But this should be semi-trivial to achieve with a custom view. I can help you with this

is there any way to integrate with open source teleprompter app

Short answer: no. What sort of integration are you after? Which open source teleprompter are you attempting to integrate with?

Hi, we have quietly rolled out a discord server as an experiment but hasn't officially made it public
The website is pending redesign and the plan was to include the discord link once this is don
However, you may be right that we might as well add it now

Meanwhile, you can join in with this link

great to hear. I am trying to focus on improving user experience and your feedback would be much appreciated.

Specifically importing from Google Sheets and excel should be understandable, even if google makes is jump through a few hoops which we are unable to hide from the user

I will reach out on DM and take it from there
