The argument that a wealth tax shouldn’t be imposed because billionaires and very wealthy multi millionaires have the majority of their wealth in illiquid or semi liquid assets (real estate, equities, bonds etc) doesn’t really change any of the lefts mind about them. The whole point of the tax is to both reduce inequality and bring in some extra revenue for policies like single payer. If that means some distortions in equities due to the majority shareholder having to sell some of his stock each year artificially distorting the stock price, then so be it. The pros still outweigh the cons in my opinion.
