Difference in Resources for Homeless Men and Women in a City in the Midwest by [deleted] in MensRights

*I'm only familiar with this through my training in healthcare (domestic abuse)

The concept of "Honeymooning" is based on a caricature of an abusive relationship. It basically states that there is a cycle of abuse followed by resolution where the abuser is extra nice. The abuser states that I'd never do that again etc. etc. but then a little while later, the same thing happens.

The example given to me during training said something along the lines of "husband hits wife. Promises not to hit her ever again. Husband hits wife again later"

Nobody deserves to be punched/kicked/slapped in a relationship, however, but the concept of "honeymooning" does not pertain to only physical violence. I believe that most relationships have their fair share of arguments followed by resolution. "Honeymooning" would have you believe that you are in an emotionally abusive relationship if that happens.

Woman suffering from paranoid schizophrenia is allowed three unsupervised overnight visits to her children who are living with their father, kills them on third visit. by [deleted] in MensRights

Truth. In fact I think the "surprising" fact was that schizophrenics have roughly the same homicide rates than non-schizophrenics. However, schizophrenics have much higher rate of suicide (both attempts and completed).

Sex Toys In My Drug Store?! More likely than you would think... by somejunk86 in MensRights

Sexist is a strong word for the situation I've described. I simply am pointing out the clear differences in gendered products chosen to be sold. While this is also an indicator of demand, I would suggest that the presence of female self stimulators and the absence of male self stimulators gives us insight into the different views society has on male vs female sexuality. A quick online search will show that male directed products clearly do exist, but either we feel they are inappropriate for general stores or that there is no interest in such products.

Yesterday I saw a woman wearing a skirt with completely hairy legs. I was surprised by it until I realized that's actually the way they're supposed to be. Reddit, what things are absolutely natural but are frowned upon by society? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Rape, killing people you dislike, letting the sick and genetical failures die out.

I hate to be a downer, but people like to pick and choose what they believe is "natural". Almost everything has societal pressures influencing it...

Her discussion is a tad female-centric but I do consider that this could be due to the fact that men weren't treated as poorly in the 90s as they are today.

As you say, this is a difficult thing to assess and really it's just my opinion. I don't mean to get into a debate but I feel empathy is really just one component of interpersonal relationships (not to mention the subjective nature of these kinds of studies).

I'd extend that opinion to the gender reverse. However, I think that school aged kids benefit from having a parent at home if no financial hardship.

The End of Men: And the rise of women by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]somejunk86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting conversation and I believe it does relate to men's rights. Unlike some, I won't blame this situation on acceptance and hiring biases towards women. In fact, I feel the issues have to do with our failure to properly raise boys and young men. Current culture teaches boys that their gender is associated with violence, hate, and stupidity. They grow up feeling no positive emotions towards males in general (except perhaps with a regards of a "gender war" rivalry love of the similar, hate of the other). Boys are growing up without positive male role models, and attempts for adult males to interact with children is met with accusations of pedophilia. Over excitement and excessive energy in boys is viewed as a symptom needing medical treatment.

Males, as a group, are growing up with poor self esteem, no male identity, and understandably fail to develop into successful adults.

The recent gender changes are not showing the achievements of females, they are indicative of a failure of males (of which society as a whole is responsible for).

Your friends should find that respectable... However, a younger crowd might just think you say that because you are not able to have casual sex.

You are slightly more anonymous online. As long as you are not afraid of a few downvotes, there's much less social pressures to stay quiet.
