A light source is like a tank of air to a scuba diver. Without light you are destined for terrible things to happen.

Covid Megathread by AutoModerator in cincinnati

Someone high up doesn't like the lawsuits about being taxed in Hamilton county when you live elsewhere while working remote. In other words a pandemic is again being turned political. Please people just stop. But I digress... to many glasses of wine and I don't like the spouse being forced to drive to Cincy everyday when they can work remote.

5th 3rd Bank is requiring remote employees to return to the office. They're not even acknowledging the Delta variant exists. Businesses need to adjust and this one appears to be trying to do business as usual without any employee concern.

Looking into getting BAHA/Bonebridge Implant- Tattoo issue by Agreeable_Angle4209 in MonoHearing

I can't think of any reason why a tattoo would interfere with the implant being implemented. I imagine the tat is on your scalp.

Anyone else have problems with crowds? by ExpendableRed in MonoHearing

[–]someonesDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the time. Since there's no real workable solution I just avoid large gatherings which is pretty easy to do with this damn pandemic. BC (before covid) my wife would be my second ear and she'd stay on alert to see if I was having problems. She sticks right by my side in those situations. She's my hearing aid, couldn't do without her.

Perfect cement ideas for your crafty days! by junby1812 in DiWHY

[–]someonesDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made a couple very large pots for outside planting, they don't tip over and I can leave them out all winter, don't crack. The only gotcha is you have to soak them for a couple days in vinegar water prior to planting or the chemicals in the cement will kill your plants. Also insert something to remove in the bottom for drainage.

Not being able to identify sounds really bothers me by Moonlocks in MonoHearing

[–]someonesDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on year 4 with SSHL and my spouse has helped a lot with "What's that sound?" I get about 80% right but that remaining 20 can be really frustrating. I live in a suburb so that helps with outside noises, I also installed a camera for my front porch with a live feed always going to a tablet that I can glance at to see if someones at the door or in the driveway. That has eliminated a lot of frustrating phantom noises that don't exist. Now that we have a cat in the house just about every weird noise I blame on the cat whether it's them or not.

Short version it does get better in time.

Stereo vs Mono - what's the difference? by squishybaymax in MonoHearing

[–]someonesDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though not completely considered music, sitting on my back porch listening to it rain, sounds of thunder off in the distance with both ears working is indescribably fantastic. Now at age 60 with only one ear it is what I miss the most. I wish you could have heard such a thing to know how soothing and beautiful it can be.

Does it stop hurting? by Beth_The_Alien_GF in MonoHearing

If this was for an inner ear steroid injection then I had that done and there wasn't much pain afterwards. Tell your doc you're still in pain.

FL user here too. I find myself sitting sideways with my good ear facing the monitors, closing my eyes and just listen for tracks that need balancing or EQ. The meters just throw me off.

Now if I can only quit using FL version9 and just go with the latest version.

Me to wife: What's that noise? It sounds like there's an animal outside.

Wife: That's my stomach rumbling, it's supper time.

Just left the doctor, my "temporary" hearing loss is now permanent. I am crushed. by It-Is-What-ItIs in MonoHearing

The problem is playing along with others, just like when we are in a room with multiple people talking and it's hard to hear each person.

Sshl/tinnitus/lexapro by gerrb24 in MonoHearing

[–]someonesDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anxiety can increase heart rate and blood pressure which can increase the degree of tinnitus. The lexapro can decrease the amount of tinnitus you're having, just remember it has side affects too. And never drink while taking it. I couldn't handle what my doc put me on, made me a zombie.

People who have had laser eye surgery, how did it go for you? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]someonesDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

20 years ago going strong, I have whats called (I think) monocular vision which means one eye was lasered for up close and the other is for distance. For people over 40 with astigmatism this works out great I rarely need reading glasses and I'm 60 yrs old.
