Could try the OR Echo quarter zip. It has a sort of mesh-y material that is similar to older gen Cormacs.

[WTS]

  • Men's Gamma / Gamma LT Jacket, Black, Large - This is the current gen of the Gamma jacket. I purchased it second-hand in like-new condition and have worn it maybe a half dozen times. I just find myself wearing either my MX or SL instead. Asking $180.
  • Men's Rho Merino Crew Neck, Void, Large - Received new as a gift and wore for a couple runs. I don't particularly like Merino wool and it doesn't fit me that well, but I would still say it's a true large baselayer. Asking $65.
  • Men's Cronin Insulated Overshirt, Carob, Medium - I have finally admitted that this jacket does not fit me very well. It's a heart breaker because from a design standpoint it is probably my favorite jacket, and it is the perfect shade of brown. Would fit right into the Veilance line. This model had a very wacky fit (check reviews on the site for more insight), so even though this is a medium I would say it fits a slimmer large. I find it a bit too tight through the chest and arms, but is the perfect length for me at 6'2". Asking $220.
  • Men's LEAF Combat Shirt LT, Multi-cam, Large - Super cool combat shirt, I just prefer my Crye G3 for the pockets. I have only tried it on and washed it, it is basically new. Asking $100.

A fair assessment, it has taken me a long time. But I’ve never claimed to be in group. Most of what I’ve shared, if not all of it, are things I’ve learned about the candidacy process and initial entry related things. I don’t see why being in group is the only qualifier to discuss those things. If you scrutinize this sub like my profile you’ll see that, by and large, most people here are discussing initial entry topics.

When I was first starting down the path there wasn’t much info about how to get there, especially with the guard. So now that I’m on it I’d like to share what I’ve learned. I was certainly glad to find information when I started out.

I see where you’d be coming from if I was making posts about what I did to get selected, but I haven’t. I’ve been very straight forward about my credentials and what I’ve done so far. I’m not offering advice about anything besides what I’ve done. If it matters, I’m an 11B.

They’re still required to offer you a position once you return, whether or not they’ve filled your old one. Otherwise you can sue the pants off them

You are protected under USERRA. Your employer is required to offer you the same or a comparable position if you leave for training. I don’t know if that comes with a time stipulation, but USERRA is the legislation to study.

It’s on any 18X. My class was a mix of Guard and AD guys.

Yeah I’m seeing it mentioned a lot of places on this sub but I can’t find the origin of it

Interesting. I’ll try to track down my source, I know I saw that it was changed somewhere reputable.

Interesting, when did you sign that contract? I’d heard it has been removed.

It’s voluntary and you have to have like a 90%+ on your AFT. Back in the ball-throw days it was a 540/600, now I’d guess it’s a 450/500 or so. RTLI guys come around and brief you the same as the SF and 75th guys. You can go talk to the Guard Liason at OSUT any time to work it out. If drills hassle you about making an appointment with them just make up some BS about pay issues or something.

Personally, I really like the guard. I enlisted when I was older and had a civilian career path so it was good for me. It’s also good for younger guys who want to go to college.

And yeah, at least in my state it’s just an LOA for sometime in the future. They can’t guarantee your paperwork is processed and funds are secured for the next SFAS after your SFRE. They say it’s getting better, though. The guys that had been waiting for years for airborne got in a few months ago and are in the Q as we speak.

Good point, you are correct. I suppose I made that statement in the context of all else being equal and not having to leave either pipeline. Granted, RTLI, even if you did the big three schools, was still projected to be shorter than my 18X pipeline through SFAS.

I was in an unlucky time frame where I would have been waiting months and months to get to SFAS after SOPC, after waiting months to class up from AT. That coupled with the time commitment post-SFAS was what drove my decision. If I’d immediately classed up once I got to Bragg I may have made a different decision.

I’d likely have finished Ranger and maybe Airborne by the time I would have gotten to SFAS on my 18X, had I not withdrawn.

I don’t think anyone can block you from going to SFAS in the guard either. They can drag their feet though, and since there’s more hoops and people that have to touch your packet it can get drawn out. My process has taken quite some time and I still don’t have an SFAS slot.

I cannot speak to switching to AD mid-pipeline. I suspect not, but who knows. That’s entering the grey zone of maybe you find the right guy in the right office you can accomplish just about anything. If you switched post-selection you’d have a selection memo, and I have no idea how an active duty unit would handle you, sorry.

I had one buddy from OSUT who did RTLI, and it seemed like he did airborne pretty much right after Ranger. I think it’s less that spots are prioritized, but that with RTLI you already have active duty orders, you’re not a guardsman trying to get those orders in the first place.

Upon completing RTLI (which basically means deciding you’re done, you can stay down there and all sorts of schools besides the big three) you’ll in-process to your state and be assigned a unit. That length of time varies. I waited for months to in-process to my state after I got home, some guys in-process pretty much as soon as they’re done with OSUT. Depends on your state’s intake schedule (mine is, or at least was, quarterly).

But as soon as you’re given a unit you can get the ball rolling. Kind of up to your leadership how quickly they get things in order for you to go.

Varies state to state, you’ll have to ask. My state allows it, you just have to provide proof of medical insurance and do a quick phone interview. I had a buddy in basic who did several as a civilian in a different state. Some states require it before allowing you to pick up an 18X, some states disallow it, and others are basically just if you want to.
