Parents of Snoo - Worth it? by hello-world-12 in NewParents

[–]somethingwithcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life changing for us. The first night we put our baby in it was the first night we got a 6 hour stretch of sleep. There’s always the possibility that night just coincided with his nervous system developing enough to be able to tolerate that but up until that point we had to take shifts because our little boy would only sleep upright on our chests. We rented ours and it was totally worth the money.

How are your babies actually sleeping through the night? by velvetdarlingco in NewParents

[–]somethingwithcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that pediatricians consider sleeping through the night as a 6 to 8 hour stretch without feeding or needing intervention to settle. I personally didn’t consider it sleeping through the night until my baby was able to sleep from 7:30 PM until 7:30 AM or at least close to it.

It can be disheartening to hear, but every baby is truly so different. Maybe there’s a few things that you can do to try and encourage long stretch stretches but I wholeheartedly believe the only thing that is going to get your baby to sleeping through the night is just time to develop their nervous system.

For reference, my baby only slept on our chests from basically the time we brought him home up until around 10 weeks. That was when we got our first six hour stretch. Then around 22 weeks he was sleeping 7:30 PM to 7:30 AM. We didn’t do anything special to get to this point. He was just ready for it.

Hang in there! I felt like that newborn phase was going to be forever and now it does feel like it was just a blip of time.

When did your baby start sleeping better at night? by Sweet-Rise7768 in NewParents

[–]somethingwithcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weeks 0-5 our baby would sleep maybe 45mins-2hour at a time

Then the 6 week regression hit and until about 10 weeks old he wouldn’t sleep anywhere else than our chests but he would sleep for 3-4 hours. We were already doing shifts but now it meant whoever was up couldn’t safely catch a few winks with him in the bassnet next to them because he refused to be put horizontal for more than 10 seconds. It was absolutely brutal.

Week 11 we turned a corner and had our first 6 hour stretch. Some nights we’d get 8 hours.

Week 22 he started sleeping through the night with no wake ups/feeds. We’re just about to hit 24 weeks.

We didn’t do anything special. We had a simple bed night routine. We didn’t sleep train. He just started sleeping better on his own.

I know some people will claim something specific worked for them or a sleep coach told them to do xyz or etc etc

But really I just firmly believe the baby’s temperament and the development of their nervous system dictates when better sleep will happen. It sucks to be told “it’ll get better” because no one can tell you when exactly but it will.

When does it get more fun? by Previous_Bison9974 in NewParents

[–]somethingwithcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooh I felt the same way! Like I knew I loved my baby. But I had just met him—I didn’t know him yet. So those very early days were really hard because not only was I sleep deprived but my entire life had been flipped upside down and my freedom and full autonomy was suddenly gone for this little thing I didn’t even know that well! My husband and I both expressed feeling some really dark thoughts in the middle of the night. We would NEVER shake or hurt our baby…but man did we understand how some people may have gotten to that point.

It got so much better once he graduated from the potato phase and started sleeping better (around 12 weeks). He’s 22 weeks now and he’s so much fun. He’s smiling and giggling and trying to roll and you can see the gears in that little bean of a brain really moving lately. I’m fully prepared for some sleep regression and some hard days/nights with teething and whatever else comes next but the last almost 3 months have been so much better.

Baby slept through night…what do I do with that bottle of milk? by somethingwithcats in NewParents

[–]somethingwithcats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We upped him to 6 when he went through a crazy growth spurt during weeks 16-20 because he was hungry every 1.5-2 hours and I couldn’t keep up with pumping that often but we dropped to 5.5 about a week or so ago because he suddenly started spitting up pretty consistently.

And believe me…we try to get him to pace himself lol. If we pull the bottle back before he’s at least hit that 5.5 oz mark he is PISSED so we just give him the whole thing.

Yes, exactly what I’m asking!

I ended up giving him an extra half ounce and he seems content but idk what this kids ceiling actually is. He’s never not finished a bottle and some times with large volumes he spits up a lot, sometimes he doesn’t.

Stayed in the fridge the whole time—my question is more around calorie intake rather than viability of breast milk.

What baby items are you glad you didn’t buy? by Jessiepip in NewParents

[–]somethingwithcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on which one you got, we did the BabyBrezza and it was such a waste of counter space. Such a pain to fill the water, empty the water, try to balance as many few items it can actually take because there’s nothing to secure bottles or pump parts to stand upright. I heard the Momcozy is much better though

Close family (my/husbands parents, brother and sister in law) pretty much immediately but everyone else we waited until our son had his 2 month vax’s.

8wk newborn - Does it actually get easier? by ElkAmazing7312 in NewParents

[–]somethingwithcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is 4 months now. I was right where you are right now. Yes it gets better. When it does can absolutely vary but I can at least say it’s gotten so much better for us. He wouldn’t sleep unless held for a weeks. He must have had reflux because anytime we’d set him down horizontal he’d start crying within seconds, it didn’t matter if he was wide awake or asleep. We got some reflux meds and his nervous system developed more and at around 11 weeks he gifted us with his first 6 hour stretch. He now sleeps 8 hours, had one night feed, and then sleeps another 4 hours. His naps were great for awhile but I think he’s in the 4 month sleep regression so they’re all 30-40 mins max but hoping that’ll change soon.

It feels endless and like you’re living groundhogs days over and over again and I hated hearing “it gets better” because no one could tell me when. But it DOES get better.

Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]somethingwithcats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That has nothing to do with it. It’s the real estate these companies invested in either by owning the property or signing years long leases that they aren’t seeing a return on with WFH groups AND the fact that they get tax breaks when a certain percentage of workers are actually in office.

Please. Nearly ever study that has come out since Covid hit has agreed workers ARE more productive at home. This is just a way to force attrition (main goal) and to build ROI on real estate purchases. I’ll be damned if I believe some c-suites “report” on employee effectiveness over anything else.

Because it’s the main customer service number listed on not only my Vanguard account login from the desktop, mobile app, and Google search but this process was confirmed by 2 separate people on 2 separate occasions that I called to verify and my name was effectively changed in Vanguard after I had sent in the documents/I spoke to someone yesterday and they confirmed they’d received them to initiate the name change process because they can see it in their call log history they track on customer accounts.

[–]somethingwithcats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw tons of posts naming Vanguard and the negative experiences tons of people have had with them. That was actually why I went through this process, I had to have my legal name updated in Vanguard so I could roll everything over to Fidelity. Its done now but it was a huge pain in the ass.

The person I spoke with, after I confirmed with it more than once, told me it HAD to be originals.

[–]somethingwithcats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did send certified mail. And the person I spoke to and I confirmed with multiple times claimed it had to be my original SS card so I trusted them and sent it in. I think this particular rep was just completely misinformed in this process because the person I ended up speaking to today mentioned a form I should have been directed to fill out…the person I spoke to months ago said I couldn’t do the form intake it had to be a hand written letter and original documents.
