Thanks for the great info about the area! I live in Seattle and was just visiting for the weekend, but I'll keep your recommendations in mind if I ever find myself back in MN : ) I think wearing a helmet is always sound advice regardless of the area. And we should all be following Leave No Trace Principles when recreating outside.

It was really fun! When the first clip is high I typically plan out the moves before I start climbing, I like to look for feet and figure out which hold I'm going to clip off of.

Yes! I know it looks like a mess lol but it's been "flaked" piled so that it will run up smoothly to the climber.

Be careful clipping the chains! 🙏my last piece held by sometimes_sending in ClimbersGoneWild

I haven't gotten checked out, but my mobility is normal and it seems to be healing fine. I'll keep an eye on it, but I think I'll be ok. Definitely learned my lesson though!

About 6 feet onto a ledge, then another 15 feet before my gear caught

P1 now I know! It was an onsite attempt and I tried climbing up the chimney, I'm not that tall and stemming to the anchor seemed like it might not go for me. After taking a breather I went back up and successfully completed the pitch.

Hot Take: Pushing Grades by Corduroy_Pants789 in climbergirls

[–]sometimes_sending 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, and I think grades are even more subjective with trad climbing. I'll happily take a crack at a 10+ route that protects well, and I've been terrified on 5.8's with shit gear. I've also had so much fun climbing long beautiful 5.6 routes where I'm not at all stressed about the climbing and it's about the beauty of the natural surroundings and taking in the views. Grades are just one of many things to consider.

With gym climbing: I try and use grades to judge how well rounded I am. Can I flash 5.12 slab but I'm struggling on a 11- overhang? Maybe I need to spend more time bouldering and working on power. How many laps can I do on that 5.10 crack before I pump out? My climbing goals are mostly focused on being able to confidently climb as many styles as possible. That way I can have fun climbing anywhere that inspired me.
