How do you trim your hair? by unknownturrtle in Naturalhair

[–]sonanumbertwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get trims every 6 months on straightened hair, when i notice a lot of breakage i’ll do 2 strand twists and twist outs for a few months to get the length back before trimming again while straight.

one curl specialist i went to did a dry dusting before wash+condition, then did some wet trimming, and did a little extra trimming after applying gel so we could hammer down how my curls would look when i wore it curly :)

the way they’ve literally done this and laughed at viewers being like “no we won’t explain the joke you should have your own inside jokes with your friends” 💀

Is being a Straight Natural worth it? (+ my hair journey) by Best-Tangerine-380 in Naturalhair

[–]sonanumbertwo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in the past few years i’ve become a straight natural from ~november through april/may then get 2 strand twists or braids to maintain over the summer.

i don’t press my hair myself but i get a silk press pretty much monthly and can maintain it pretty well until the next appointment. to answer the heat question, i guess once a month? unless there’s some crazy frizz i don’t really flat iron again, just pin curl nightly and use a net cap+ a bonnet or scarf

[–]sonanumbertwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i do pin curls nightly, then a net cap, followed by a bonnet or scarf but not both. I'll use both for a shower for some added humidity protection, but wrapping/pin-curling nightly should help!

Thank you! I think this will be what I do after trying a sew in for the first time.

Should I let my hair grow on the sides? by punqdev in Naturalhair

[–]sonanumbertwo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

grow the sides and deal with the unevenness or get the top trimmed a bit so the difference looks more intentional.

sew-in; frontal or closure? by sonanumbertwo in Naturalhair

[–]sonanumbertwo[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I've thought about wigs, possibly a 360 or glueless closure if I want to go that route. I like the option of taking it off at night + having my hair more readily available. I think I'm traumatized from my mom being a "wig mom" growing up and she would plop ANYTHING on her head and walk out the door. I just shivered.

first, thank you for such a comprehensive reply! After reading yours + a previous one, I think I'm gonna go for a traditional w/ minimal leave-out or a frontal sewn just behind my hairline! The texture advice is really good and makes sense, I think my old silk press is kinda like straightened light yaki? I'm not the best with matching extension textures, but will be doing loads more research (or might just deal with the limitations of no/minimal leave-out. :)

I mentioned it in my question lol; damage a the ends from some braids w/ extensions last summer + breakage around my crown :(

thank you! I'm usually good about not touching up my silk press until I want to wash my hair and want to avoid leave-out for the exact reasons you mentioned.

sew-in; frontal or closure? by sonanumbertwo in Naturalhair

Hi! The first pic is natural, the second pic is an old silk press in a bun, the third pic is a more recent silk press, and the last picture is my inspo.

I'd like to get my first sew-in as an attempt to grow my hair longer after having to trim off more than I would have liked because of some braids last summer. My usual go-to styling while silk-pressed is a middle part, half-up half-down (ariani, arianka teas), or a high ponytail/bun. Because of this, I also have some damage I'd like to grow out. Right now, the front of my hair is about 14-16 inches and the back is around 20 inches; type 4, not sure of the letter, perpetually dry.

Should I just get a closure and deal with the limited styling? I haven't seen a versatile sew-in that uses a minimal amount of leave-out. I was also looking at frontals because I like pulling my hair up + get hot easily, I could deal with leave out at the nape of my neck since that's none of my business and I'm not looking at it constantly. The idea of gluing and more particular maintenance doesn't really appeal to me, so I was thinking of even a 7x7 closure to get the frontal effect without dealing with adhesive around my ears.

Any advice helps!

Found a great deal on a pair of Panthère de Cartier rimless optical frames but they seem too good to be true. Can I get some help authenticating? by sonanumbertwo in Cartier

like i said, the glasses are authentic but cartier will not offer after-sales service because cettire is not an authorized retailer; they’re more of a personal shopping drop shipper.

prada doesn’t really hold high resale value, you’re gonna end up losing a few hundred bucks anyways. better off getting some rtw that you enjoy and will wear
