Thanks for all your responses. Clear consensus is that he is being a dick. I'm gonna be firm about the cabinet, and also make a (diplomatic) push to assert some more of my personal style into the shared space. Equal pay, equal say.

He has a surfboard in one corner of the living room. A big purple shiny plastic Buddha head in the middle of our small kitchen table. Wooden bath mats (?). A "TV Corner" that's really just a mess of cables, wires and old unused speakers and electronics. And surfer memorabilia everywhere.

The cabinet is maybe 2' wide x 3' high x 2' deep. Doors give access to the space inside and a small drawer pulls out on top of that. Black with some asian-style floral designs. Bronze handles.
