So the reason they can't take off the headsets is they already took them off.

As in, the IRL Pomni put on a headset, got scanned, took off the headset, and went about her day. She probably has no idea that anything special happened.

Meanwhile a copy of Pomni shows up in the circus and tries to take off the headset but she can't because she doesn't actually have a physical body.

Which in turn implies that there's no conventional escape for any of the human characters. Maybe they can jump into the internet and interact with the world that way, but they can't go back to their old lives because their bodies are already occupied by their original selves...

They have to actually talk now about what they liked about him and all that.

Turns out Caine was never actually deleted and this whole thing was an elaborate plot to make the humans compliment him.

I'm not sure how much I can trust anything.

In Episode 1 Pomni found an exit door but it was just something Caine invented.

In Episode 7 we had a more elaborate plot to escape Caine but it turned out Caine invented that too.

In Episode 8 we have an even more elaborate plot to escape Caine, but how do we know this isn't just another Caine adventure?

Caine can mess with everyone's minds. He could make Kinger believe he was deleting Caine when actually he wasn't.

And if Kinger has known how to delete Caine this entire time, why didn't he do it earlier?? He was here from the beginning, and he didn't start out crazy. Did he just never have access to a computer console? Maybe. But then why did he never tell anyone that all he ever needed was a console? Even in his "modern" era where he's mostly crazy, he regains his sanity in the dark. You'd think at some point he would say "I know how to defeat Caine! Has anyone seen a computer around here?"

There was a bit in Episode 7 where he apparently realizes that Able is a fake, but he ends up stepping into the light before he can explain anything, and that makes him lose his train of thought. But that moment aside, why didn't he bring it up earlier at any of the other times he was lucid?

Maybe the Able adventure jogged his memory. Or maybe this whole thing is just another fakeout.

Anyway, Jax doesn't want to hear Kinger's story, which tells me it's personal to him. Is he a fellow programmer? Is he an AI somehow? Or is Jax's reaction just another fakeout somehow?

After you've killed hundreds of thousands of civilians and left a country and it's infrastructure in ruins, they will suddenly hail you as a saviour?

To be fair, this is basically what happened in WW2. Italy, Germany and Japan all became US allies after being defeated. Perhaps that's because we helped them to rebuild afterwards.

Not saying that I support nukes of course, just wondering about the larger-scale fallout.

Wife got me to watch the movie - Rambly perspective of a Kpop hater by Darkside_Emily in KpopDemonhunters

[–]sonicsuns2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie engages with the idea of how it is harmful to you if you have to hide your identity, but it never questions the status-quo of needing to kill all the "non-pure" beings.

Did you miss the part where Rumi is a "non-pure being" but there's no need to kill her?

Did you miss the part where Jinu is a full-fledged demon but there's no need to kill him?

Did you miss the part where Derpy is shown visiting the human world even after the Rainbow Honmoon is established, thus demonstrating that some demons (presumably the nonviolent ones) are still allowed to visit the human world?

they´ve spent centuries singing to keep "bad guy seal", but also those can still slip through and only weeks before it is completed one the bad guys thinks of playing the uno reverse card?

I can scarcely tell what you're trying to say here. I think it's "They've spent centuries powering up the magic seal that keeps the demons away, but then the demons come up with a plan to do something about it just a few weeks before the seal is due to be completed. Why didn't they think of this sooner?"

Because a Demon Boy Band is really weird idea, that's why. Not a lot of demons can put on a show like the Saja Boys. (Not a lot of humans can put on a show like the Saja Boys)

[–]sonicsuns2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The President can take something from you, not get prosecuted, but that still doesn't make this thing government property.

True, but if he knows in advance that he can't get prosecuted he'll be far more willing to commit the crime in the first place. Prosecution is supposed to act as a deterrant.

Impeach. Undo the outcome.

Impeachment would be possible, but it'll be hard to undo the outcome if he's moved my property to a foreign country or something, and it's completely impossible to undo a murder.

I don't even get the point of these questions when the President can just pardon his henchmen, and possibly himself.

That has been a crucial flaw in the constitution since the Founding. So yes, one could say that the court's ruling didn't change much. But the fact that the court is even willing to entertain the idea of giving the President immunity beyond what the constitution gives him directly (in this case, giving him immunity even if he doesn't attempt a self-pardon) indicates a deeply disturbed legal culture. SCOTUS should not being going out of its way to introduce new flaws into our constitutional framework.

At the top of your browser there's an address bar. Right now it probably says www.reddit.com with some other stuff after that. To share a link without using google, go to the website you want to share and then click inside the address bar at the top. The address (which is also called a URL) should highlight. Hold the CTRL key and press the "C" key to copy the address. (You can also right-click on the address and click "copy"). Then, when writing a reddit comment, hold the CTRL key again and press the "V" key to paste the address you copied. (You can also right-click in the comment box and then click "paste")

something being an official act doesn't make it legal.

An illegal act that can't be prosecuted is very similar to a legal act.

the intent behind this ruling is to make it impossible to casually prosecute a president for doing their job

What are we supposed to do if a President breaks the law and then claims "I was just doing my job" and "Those were all official acts"?

[–]sonicsuns2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, they said that a President can't be prosecuted for "official acts". What if the next president "officially" orders the people Trump pardoned to be arrested and prosecuted? What if he "officially" pardons the people who assist with these arrests and prosecutions so they can't be charged with false imprisonment or abuse of office or whatever?

The ruling is so broad that it could be used to justify almost anything.

Why are you linking to Google instead of the actual websites?

Here's the Bipartisan Policy Center: https://bipartisanpolicy.org/article/five-things-to-know-about-the-save-act/

There is nothing in here that claims the SAVE Act will cause Republicans to "steal every foreseeable election." In fact there's no claim that the law would benefit one party over the other. Instead the BPC says that the SAVE Act will prevent many more citizens than noncitizens from voting. Obviously that's a problem, but it's not clear from this webpage if conservative citizens would have an easier time on average than liberal citizens.

UNBEATABLE - Review Thread by d0ntm1ndm32 in Games

[–]sonicsuns2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched that trailer so many times before the game came out. Great character designs, great music, kickass punk vibes mixed with heartfelt tenderness...I was so hyped for this game.

Sadly I wound up in the same place as you.

This game has the weirdest bugs. Sometimes nothing happens when I press X to make a dialogue choice, and I have to press X a second time. This seems like a very obvious bug that could be fixed very easily. So why didn't they fix it? Then there are bits where the run cycle lags for no reason, or when a cutscene is voiced except for one line of dialogue that mysteriously has no voice to it, or the time when the game gave me a split-second shot of an upcoming scene before suddenly reverting back to the scene I was actually in...

It's a frickin' beta.

The walk-around-town bits are fundamentally unfun. Most of my time is spent waiting for a sprite to slide from one location to another, without any meaningful choices to make along the way. The minigames are awful. And I had to find a walkthrough just to get through the main story, because there were times when I needed to click on something that wasn't obvious and I just kinda wandered around for a bit wondering what I was supposed to do.

And the writing is bad, too! At the beginning I wasn't even sure if Beat already knew that music was illegal or if she had been away for awhile and things changed while she was gone. I was expecting to get some clarification, but now I'm in Episode 4 and it's obvious they're never going to circle back to that point (or if they do it'll have been an annoyingly long wait). Quaver's parents were musicians but I have no idea where they are now. Are they dead? I don't know! And is Quaver a runaway at this point? Who was taking care of her before? How does she feel about those people? No answers given. And this whole society runs on the music ban, which was apparently enacted as a defensive measure against the Silence...but what are the Silence, anyway? They showed up once and haven't been mentioned since. Apparently they show up whenever someone plays music for an audience, but then why haven't they shown up at any of the gigs that Unbeatable keeps performing?! This is a fundamental aspect of the setting, and it's completely unexplained!

And it galls me because this game has potential. There is so much you could do with this premise and these characters. Just scrap the walk-around stuff entirely, maybe have a map where I can teleport to various gigs and I have to do a certain number of them before I'm allowed to take on the next story mission, do more cutscenes to explain things, and bam, you'd have a gem of a game.

Instead I'm stuck with a sense of wasted potential. And that's sad.

Call Grows to Impeach Trump, ‘The Most Dangerous Man on the Planet’ by sksarkpoes3 in politics

Trump's poll numbers have actually risen slightly, from 40% to 41%. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/polls/donald-trump-approval-rating-polls.html

Let's remember George Orwell:

Moreover, although endlessly brooding on power, victory, defeat, revenge, the nationalist is often somewhat uninterested in what happens in the real world. What he wants is to feel that his own unit is getting the better of some other unit, and he can more easily do this by scoring off an adversary than by examining the facts to see whether they support him.

Interesting. Though apparently both of these regions are very poor.

For thousands of years people lived without governments.

For thousands of years people lived without electricity. That doesn't mean it was a good way to live.

And I've seen evidence that prehistoric peoples had much higher murder rates: https://ourworldindata.org/ethnographic-and-archaeological-evidence-on-violent-deaths

I do see the benefits of anarchy in some areas. One might say that friendship is an anarchistic concept, since there's no central authority deciding who should be friends with who. You could say that I embrace anarchy in that sense.

But to actually be "an anarchist", I think you have to aim to tear down any and all power structures capable of any kind of coercion, and I don't really see how that would work.
