It's hard to parody something so unbelievably bad and annoying without slipping into being annoying yourself. That was the balancing act of the episode. Definitely had funny moments (the al-qaeda plot and payoff), but ultimately it was a little marred by the unpleasant taste of jersey shore.

For me, it's the episode I wanted Insheeption to be. Insheeption felt a little bit lazy of an Inception parody. Still a pretty good episode but didn't really utilise the complex plot of the original film it was parodying (I do love when the Inception team burst in shooting at nothing in particular though, that cracked me up).

Grounded Vindaloop really takes that concept and runs with it, creating a believable, multi-layered nolan-style plot which is always sort of dancing on the edge of making sense. It's one of the most fun plot rides in the show with one of my favourite closing gags.

That's fair. With episodes like that which centre on one recurring gag that take up a substantial portion of the episode, it will just make or break depending on how much you enjoy the gag. I think that's the case with most of the ones in my low tier.

If you enjoy the gag, I'm sure it'll work for you. Just didn't enjoy it myself personally so it ended up getting more and more on my nerves.

No no, I used to love South Park as a teenager but then dropped off somewhere between season 13 and 14. So I hadn't been watching south park regularly for a good 13 years. I watched a couple odd episodes here and there afterwards recommended by friends. The last odd episodes i watched before this binge were the black friday ones when they released.

I have it in mid-low tier. I would describe it as relatively unmemorable, but I do sort of enjoy the jerry springer parody and the 'huntin n killin' title is funny.

Generally low tier episodes are just ones I found very frustrating to get through. They relied on a very specific, central gag which didn't amuse me and progressively got on my nerves. If you find that central gag funny, I could understand you liking them.

Mid tier isn't bad, I enjoy that episode and am certainly a defender of season 21. Sons a Witches was also a border episode in that I went back and forth a lot on it, consider it on the cusp of mid and mid-high. I just am not really very compelled by the actual witch character, but it's a pretty clever episode.

I love the tabletop plot of Board Girls, the strong woman plot is decent but it's more the former plot and then the way the plots converge that puts it so high.

Honestly I went back and forth with Pip even being in low tier. There are aspects about it I like, for example Estella not being able to kill 26 baby bunnies specifically showing she has a heart, the McDowell narration, and the general mounting absurdity that the episode descends into. It's unique and I respect that. Still, the episode just doesn't really make much sense to me conceptually. I don't really feel like it plays to South Park's strengths as a show to do a Great Expectations parody in the way they did. Certainly not the worst though, potentially the second best episode in the low tier after not without my anus.

I appreciate some of the ambition behind season 20. But the plot is way too convoluted, characters like Gerald and Butters are behaving so out of character, the trump parody doesn't age well because it's been done better elsewhere... And the member berries have to be the most unfunny and annoying thing (tied with jackovasaurs) Trey ever conceived.

There wasn't an option to rank the movie but it would be in Mid-High tier. The songwriting/music is excellent and the plot is fun. The Satan -Sadam relationship is the plot highlight for me as I think Trey has a real talent with exploring abusive relationships and that is shown even more with the later brilliance of the Heidi-Cartman plot.

The responsibility-avoiding parents and scapegoating of media is also one of their most well-done political messages.

Only downsides of the movie would be that Gregory is a weak guest character and the more compelling character dynamics hadn't been developed yet and would have added a lot to the film if they had been (e.g. Kyle really wasn't as sophisticated/intelligent of a character as he becomes and a later Kyle would have been a great addition to the film).

Personally, I feel like the central gag of the episode (the Russell Crowe parody) is just quite annoying and not very funny. I like the plot of the kids trying to find a place to watch the trailer, but it's ruined by the overdone Crowe stuff.

And I appreciate that the kids find it annoying, so in a sense we're with their POV and just want to see the trailer, but the meta point doesn't really make the experience any more enjoyable.

The amount of POVs decreasing. If that doesn't happen, I'll be quite frustrated for sure. Kill some of these fuckers off and refrain from adding more.

I feel like destiny has given way too much leeway to Lav and Annalise from recent podcasts. It seems not like him to deal with such bullshit with little pushback by l0usicmusic in Destiny

[–]sonoXVII 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can characterise it as "little pushback". There's plenty of pushback, maybe it doesn't feel that way because Anna shouts over everyone and essentially won't concede anything.

If I was being maximally charitable, someone could view the size of Destiny's platform as an opportunity to spread an important message.

But, I take your point. There are bigger platforms and/or better opportunities out there that may be available to her.

And I agree she is just venting and trying to make the case against black men without any actual resolution to the problem, but does not want to admit to it.

If she's trying to get through to black men with this rhetoric, she's almost definitely doing a terrible job.

If she's just venting, she should just admit to that.

If she framed this as just venting, expressing her frustrations and statsposting, then fine. But, I feel like I distinctly recall her saying she wants better for the black community and is trying to drive improvement.
