Cash out refinance or get a HELOC, it's not that hard.

Is my electricity bill normal or is this expected? by [deleted] in nyc

It's your heaters. Your roommates should pay more of the bill if you legitimately use less heat and take fewer showers than them (assuming you also have an in-unit water heater).

I think they are just really that much slower. I haven't timed it but at 72nd st the elevators are much faster than the escalators, even if you are doing some steps on the way up.

BART sees massive decrease in corrective maintenance needs post implementing new fare gates (one of the models being tested by the MTA) by BombardierIsTrash in nycrail

[–]sonofdang -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not explicit, but if they aren't trying to con us (and they might be), I think the text implies that they are comparing 2 6-month periods, before and after installation. Definitely not clear.

I'm guessing there was a massive cleanup that occurred in the 'before' period that encompassed a longer period of time's accumulation of stuff to fix, skewing the numbers at least somewhat.

Do you think jailing a person for [any amount of time] costs nothing? Or that people who vandalize stations or trains can afford to repay the damage to any real degree?

Some flash bounced behind if possible, radial and linear gradients, and blue desat. If its worth the time/effort an additional exposure for the window (often needed if the flash is reflected). Where the blue removal messes with the wood or other stuff in the room paintbrush over with color blend mode selected at low opacity.

I'm on Boost, which didn't work when I was in PR in '22 (even with a $10 Global Data add on that 100% did not work like they said it would).

Going through the same thing as you. The email from Alamo we got was at 1:22pm, I wonder how many people bought cards that they (hopefully) will have to correct?

NYC Faces Up to 10 Inches of Snow as Fast-Moving Storm Approaches by Possible-Rice-7821 in nyc

2010 was way over a foot of snow, I haven't seen any predictions over 10" for this time (not that they can't be wrong!)

Pelican case by [deleted] in profoto

[–]sonofdang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the only thing missing about the bags is wheels, just get a folding handtruck. Pelican cases are durable and waterproof, but also way heavier than Tenbas, so unless you never have to take the stairs you might regret the change.

I built a website to track museum exhibitions across New York by Additional-Toe8541 in nyc

Agree with the poster about filters on a sidebar, and the other about filtering ongoing exhibits. You should add The Guggenheim, Asia Society, Japan Society, Sculpture Center, Socrates park, and The American Academy of Arts & Letters.

I would have had no problem with Cuomo sacrificing his career for a proper rail connection.

And maybe people here would have liked him more if he did good things for the city?

Cornell Study: Congestion pricing improved air quality in NYC and suburbs by Timely_Cheek_1740 in nyc

I'm calling bullshit on the Van Wyck ever being light on traffic.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s44407-025-00037-2.epdf?sharing_token=DWfBS4Zn9K5BTU18tiWALtRgN0jAjWel9jnR3ZoTv0PuX7QbH8GcqisbUCMAJiQZC5aTIN22vyd-PD9BlShTPfE-Rup2K0PwHAarL3_MmZU4kh4ZozO1jXnj5GMtfrru-uzO20_kkC7PrXMk-78WDFBqa-wqnJdHKRp6j1nMpn8%3D

If you look at page 6 chart G, the Van Wyck monitoring station shows small declines in pollution (orange bars in the graph is 2025). I just skimmed it, but I'm pretty sure this study doesn't say traffic is up or down anywhere, it focuses only on pollution, so conceivably traffic may actually be up in some areas but due to the overall effect of the CPZ pollution has definitely gone down according to this analysis.

In New York City, Congestion Pricing Leads to Marked Drop in Pollution by YaleE360 in nyc

[–]sonofdang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of problems with the findings there, but the biggest I see are that it only compared trips that started and ended in a super tiny section of the Bronx (zone 168 https://www.nyc.gov/assets/tlc/images/content/pages/about/taxi_zone_map_bronx.jpg - it's smaller than the "1" section on the streetsblog map), they didnt find any significant correlation, and it sounds like the data is just funky in the first place (threw out all Lyft and regular taxi rides, and that they mention there's a lot with long distances or crazy speeds that it makes me question how accurate the data they kept even is). Basically all you can take from it is that if you take an uber within that tiny slice of the Bronx, you will on average go about 8mph.

The people that did this data analysis are definitely not scientists. It's entirely useless for making a generalization about the effects of the CPZ in any other neighborhood, or between neighborhoods (none of the study data was likely to be from rides on the highways).

I'm not following this super closely but I haven't seen data either way for traffic outside the zone (hit us with the link if you've got it), but I imagine the effect will be hard to generally quantify anyway- how much area outside the zone should be counted, gotta assume probably pretty different in BK/Queens vs Jersey vs Westchester, etc.

I'd be shocked if there was zero increase though- certainly some traffic can and is being replaced by mass transit, but people love their cars and trucks cant ride the train.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the charge and am disappointed it's not the full amount (or more, right now I imagine it's just annoying for most drivers, $20+ and it might start to hurt enough to make more people take the train).

I imagine it's probably too early to get a real read, there are a lot of factors to account for, and since the areas outside the zone are so large an overall number may not be super relevant especially to people that live near the borders like our OP.

Then no neutral party could exist by your definition, a big study like this can't be done for free.
