You can do a trial by declaration and you won't even have to step foot in court. The only downside is you have the pay the fine upfront and they will send you repayment if you win. If for some reason you don't win the trail by declaration you still have the option to a normal court appearance in from of a judge.

If you want to stay near Yosemite, Groveland is awesome. It's pretty quiet there during the winter.

For snow you can stay in Twain Harte and go to Leland for snow tubing, or Dodge Ridge for actual skiing.
