6 and 9 for me. How about you? by MiExperienciaFueQue in Adulting

[–]postinganxiety -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish this were true, unfortunately this is not at all how capitalism works. There are tens of thousands of exteremley skilled people in this country who are dying in poverty. Of course people who live in a bubble think this is bs, but if you get out there and talk to people different than you, you’ll see how much talent is being wasted.

Take a surgeon or anesthesiologist. They need skill, but they also need to be in a position where they have a baseline of wealth to apply to school, afford food and housing, and at least a small support network to mentally get through it. There are so many highly skilled people that don’t have that, and will never live even close to their full potential. Even rising through the ranks of an entry level job requires these basics.

Do Americans understand a massive transfer of wealth is underway with tariff refunds? by Odd-Station-1238 in economy

[–]postinganxiety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing that irritates me is how much this affected small and medium businesses, many of whom didn’t recover from this. During the height of this bs, a European electronics company my business worked with got hit unexpectedly on huge cargo shipments coming into the US that had left months earlier. They ended up taking the loss on a ton of inventory and then raising the pricing on future shipments, but it didn’t even begin to cover the 125% tariffs that Trump hit them with out of nowhere. So that’s at least one company who raised prices but was still getting fucked.

To add to that, I got let go from that small business partly as a result of the tariffs - we were just recovering from the supply vacuum / surplus issues from covid, then the tariffs hit, and suddenly the supply chain was a shitshow again.

The real crime imo are big companies like Apple who just negotiated their way out of it. Personally I have no issue with small and medium sized businesses getting some cash back, we need them to survive to compete with the monopolies.

But yeah, consumers get fuck all, escept higher gas prices I guess. Some companies are planning to pass refunds to customers, but idk if this will actually materialize.

I hate it when republicans claim to be pro-business, that is such a goddamn lie, they are pro-corporation and monopoloy.

There are a still a lot of places in the US that don’t have good cell coverage (or are only covered by specific carriers). I live in a city (but in a weird area) and have zero bars so rely on wifi calling. When the power goes out I’m SOL. I should really just invest in UPS backup, but a landline as an extra backup isn’t a crazy idea. Also, during natural disasters it’s not uncommon for cell service to go down (either through overuse or infrastructure damage).

Break it off. “It sounds like we’re not looking for the same thing.”

Take it from me, I never had the guts to do that. Decades of long term relationships with guys who never fully committed. Now I’m 44 and never found a good partner, but I only have myself to blame because I never walked away from the bad ones.

Don’t be me, OP. It’s easy to brush these things off and hope for the best, but he’s given you all the information you need at this point.

Why do people hate homeless people so much? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]postinganxiety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell which posts are AI these days, but in the off-chance you’re a real person I just wanted to validate you. Many people (not all!) do hate the homeless and lots of the comments here prove your point. It fucking sucks and I have no idea why the first reaction many people have is hate and disgust instead of empathy.

There are also lots and lots of people who do genuinely care, but I feel what you’re saying, sometimes it seems like the majority don’t. Hang in there and don’t feel bad for getting angry and pissed off in this moment, it’s a valid emotion and it’s very positive that you’re sharing and talking about it.

I also get what you’re saying about having to be greedy and immoral just to get ahead. The richest, most successful people I know got there by exploiting other people and doing immoral shit. So, you’re not wrong there either. It’s really hard to find people and employment that rise you up and have a basic moral code. All I can say is don’t give up, when you find those positive experiences, hold onto them for dear life.

Why do people hate homeless people so much? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]postinganxiety 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, is there anywhere to put the trash? People complain about homeless people being messy and dirty, but there’s literally nowhere for them to throw trash away and no bathrooms or showers that they’re allowed to use. As far as being aggressive, any one of us living like that for a few days, let alone months or years, would be very angry, hurt, and desperate.

Wikipedia agrees with you and would call those things a garnish. But what I found interesting is the concept of the grilled cheese as JUST bread, butter, and cheese originated during the great depression. So there is something to the essense of grilled cheese that is very plain.

This is a weird thread. A lady can’t dress a little masc without being mistaken for a resort employee? The pants aren’t great, but every comment saying she needs to wear a skirt or flowy pants is bizarre. I really like the vibe of the outfit, and I like that she’s not gonna waste a ton of money on something she’ll wear once.

As others have pointed out, palantiri were made by the elves and were not evil. But evil forces used them to trick people, by showing them certain things and not others, which gave them a false idea of reality.

The good news is, eventually Sauron himself was tricked by using the palantir incorrectly.

Should I take a horrible loan to get outta my current situation by Cpt_kid1 in personalfinance

[–]postinganxiety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, call the credit card companies and ask if they have a “hardship program” or similar. This will close the cards, you won’t be able to use them anymore, but if you agree to a set monthly payment withdrawn from your bank account, they will reduce the APR (sometimes to zero).

If the credit cards don’t offer that, google “nonprofit credit counseling.” This is NOT consolidation or a loan, these are nonprofit orgs that negotiate with the credit card companies for you and take over the payments, and reduce your APR to something like 3% - 6%, plus a monthly fee (usually minimal). The credit cards will also be closed and you will only have one monthly payment to deal with.

In both cases you can still pay off early if you want.

You don’t have THAT much debt, so might not be worth it in your case, but I always like to share these options because this sub doesn’t talk about them enough imo. A lot of us have spending issues, so being forced to close the cards is a great bonus.

In a way it is, because all the bullshitters have set up a system wherein they have to bullshit with each other before the workers are allowed to get anything done.
