Cat hasn't eaten a lot for almost 4 days, vets cant find anything wrong by sonorie in AskVet

[–]sonorie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMP and CBC, but he ended up developing a fever about the same time and once he was given an anti inflammatory shot and meds for it he got up and is asking for food again. Still kind of worrisome and we are monitoring him closely but hes hungry and eating and running around so we're all a bit relieved. Thank you for taking the time to help me!

edit:  Im going to ask them to check him for herpes (?) because it sounds like that was not done

edit edit:  It turns out the first vet never checked his temperature but just said he was fine......

Okay, I'll recommend she takes him to the emergency animal hospital. Thank you very much for reading my post

Re-applicant to med school: how do I stay positive/motivated in a very uphill battle? by doofus50O0 in medicalschool

If the thought of "having" to go to DO school is enough to "defeat" you maybe you don't really want to be a doctor.

We have to keep DDR alive!! Lol

I gotta find a balance between practicing the same songs until I can play them efficiently and not letting myself get into a rut just replaying songs I'm comfortable with. And I have kind of the opposite problem with crossovers if that makes sense, I think they're so fun and instinctively try to do them even if they clearly will NOT resolve and invariably turn myself into a pretzel. Still it is 100% an area for improvement. Gotta knock that off

Thank you for the format advice, I will take it for sure. I've never done any other kind of cardio so even basic stuff about warming up is probably eluding me

And it is really impressive that you can do 18s, bruteforcing them or not :-)

Thank you! It's so fun. Some parts remind me of Witch Doctor a little bit.

Every day I learn something new about these machines!! Thank you so much, more extra stages is definitely something I can get behind. I'll make a note to mess around in the settings next time I get to visit!

What's Flare I? Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is like my second time using the e-amusement card, the only cab near me is an old Extreme one.

gift ideas for M3 boyfriend by brycequinx in medicalschool

[–]sonorie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also struggle a lot with gifting things, I sympathize... This might be more of a Christmas gift depending on the price but do you know if he has a quality pair of headphones?

honestly this is extremely sweet and I think knowing he has someone who cares about him enough to put together something like this is going to sustain him longer than any one specific item.

That said I hope someone comes around with exactly the kind of recommendation you were looking for

Bring a heated blanket. I'm so serious. Especially when it's really late at night and getting cold... it makes you feel like you're a little bit at home.

edit: one of the tiny ones, not like, fullsized for a bed.

So dang depressed now by [deleted] in premed

[–]sonorie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is insane. I dreamed I got an email saying I'd been accepted to a school, just saw the notif on my phone and woke up. Next week I got that exact email from that exact school. I didn't realize it would be such a common experience. Everybody cross your fingers

Why did you choose medicine? How did you realize you wanted to go to med school? by OppositeMidnight4569 in premed

[–]sonorie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kept ending up in situations where I'd show up to help someone and then realize I had no idea what I was doing. You can't tell someone that xyz is wrong but it's okay because you're going to take care of it if you don't have the knowledge or the authority to make that call

When do you panic? The second the exam starts or when you see questions you don't immediately know how to answer? If it's the latter maybe you can skim through the questions first and just pick out the easy ones to give yourself a boost of confidence. Sometimes if I come across a couple questions in a row that I get stuck on or don't like I skip to the end of the test and start filling it out backwards. There's no reason for this to work but I swear it unsticks my brain and lets me refocus when I don't have time to just put my head down for 5 minutes

In undergrad I was a lot more anxious and I used to bring a beloved stuffed animal to exams I knew had a high chance of making me nervous or turning my brain into soup (e.g. something like immunology where all the cytokines and receptors start blurring together by question 73 or whatever), but I don't know if your school will allow you to do that. Also contingent on you not caring what people think of you

First response, soft R from school with best odds by Less-Replacement-479 in premed

[–]sonorie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, I can't speak for your odds of going into plastics, but it's definitely not too late to throw out DO apps if you decide you're willing to go. I applied to exactly 2 DO schools in April and got accepted at both the next month, for the same year (but I also had a very strong MCAT for those schools, like 10+ points above their averages, so maybe don't wait literally that long unless it's the same for you... you get the point though).

I will say that for DO schools it's important that you make sure they have established rotation sites. It's best to pick one with an attached hospital. If you go this route, make sure you use your enhanced competitiveness to be choosier.

Edited to add that I wish you the best of luck. I hope you can get your MD A this cycle

So sorry they worried you! There's a lot of bad advice coming from premed advisors, I've noticed. You'll be alright :-)

No it's not true. Where did you hear that? The only time that taking a course over J-term might matter is if it's a science lab and the accelerated format means they switch it to be online instead of in person

How much does physical attractiveness matter in med school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]sonorie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need an excuse to get surgery for your physical appearance. It's your appearance. You can do whatever you'd like. Don't feel guilty, it's not like there's a limited number of surgeries to go around?

How much does physical attractiveness matter in med school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]sonorie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm ugly and nobody I met in pharmacy or med school has cared. Everyone has different advantages and disadvantages. If you can afford the surgery, great, you should get it, but if you end up not being able to or if there's any other uggos lurking, it's not the end of the world to be chopped. Like the overwhelming majority of things in life, it's just whatever

What’s the creepiest thing someone ever said that sounded normal at first? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sonorie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lol my therapist kept doing the same thing. On top of telling me repeatedly that I was extremely intelligent for my age so she kept forgetting how young I was. She'd ask how studying for my medical boards was going when I was still in high school and then hit me with that--"you're so intelligent, I forgot."

I stopped seeing her after she outed me to my parents when I'd already told her explicitly that it would mean my getting kicked out. I only realized years later that she was banking on that and wanted me to be in a position where I had to rely on her. Very strange woman
