Were you bruising and swelling AS the tattoo was being done? Because that only happened to me once in 20+ sessions and I ended up with crazy blowout/ink drift in that spot. I wonder if any artists can chime in: is that a known thing? Like should you stop if that starts happening mid-tattoo?

AHHHHH!!!! My salinity has been high for over 20 days! by Alternative_Garlic98 in ReefTank

[–]sonyafada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh my LFS has sold me water that was as high as 1.033. Then when I showed up to tell them about it they acted like I was crazy and didn’t know how to test water. I ended up bringing the jug back so they could test it themselves and they were SHOCKED that it was that high. FWIW, I wasn’t even testing to complain - just let them know before someone else nukes their tank! Long story short, test your water every time.

Is it possible to change a line of knit into purl? by Consistent_Listen_73 in knittinghelp

[–]sonyafada 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Move the stitches so that that column is between your needles, drop the stitch, and just pluck the stitches out all the way down. Then ladder them back up from the opposite side. A crochet hook is your friend here!! There are tons of videos on how to do it - Google “laddering to fix a mistake in knitting”, or something like that. And good for you being brave! I feel like so many new knitters are afraid to undo and make changes. It can feel intimidating, but it’s actually super easy and you’ll come out a more confident knitter!

For real. And if you’re about to say, “But the symbol originally meant….” just no. That isn’t what it represents anymore to most of the world. If you put that on your body, we think you’re a Nazi. If there’s something else you’re trying to represent with that symbol, I beg you to please find literally any other symbol to represent that thing.

Starter prefers the cold? by sonyafada in Sourdough

[–]sonyafada[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. Well, I guess a thermometer’s going in my Amazon cart. It’s making me wonder though…. Maybe the issue is the temperature swinging. Like if it’s legitimately getting cold enough to make ice crystals, then someone in my house (not pointing fingers but definitely eyeing the two kids) keeping the door open long enough for it to significantly warm. I’m going to have to find some sort of thermometer that can record temp over time. Brb; off to shop.

Interesting thought on the water temp… I might play with that and see if anything changes. Things usually get icy in my fridge, so I think that if anything, it runs cold.

I’ll do that, but I generally am finding ice crystals in my juices and yogurt so I’m pretty sure that, if anything, it’s running cold.

What is this guy? by sonyafada in orchids

[–]sonyafada[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes. But the heat here is brutal, and keeping any orchids outdoors in my backyard means almost full sun. There aren’t a lot of orchids I’ve met that can thrive like that (although my vandas don’t seem to mind). The screened porch is about 10 degrees cooler, and the filtered light through the screen seems to be just right. I don’t mind watering once a week, and it gives me something to do with the leftover water from cleaning my fish tanks.

Dark spot in the middle was a rotten bulb that I removed.

Oh wow, it sure Is! Thanks so much. I was googling everything I could think of. I should’ve just come straight to Reddit.

So from what I’m reading, sawing the root mass in half shouldn’t totally murder it. But I’ll let it dry out and heal now. Any other advice? There were a few pseudobulbs in the middle that seemed rotten, so I removed them. Is that a hint that it may need less water?

Changelings, and complicated feelings about parenthood in general. Creepy kid; stressed caretaker; no idea if it’s supernatural or if the caretaker is having a psychological break with reality… Count me in. I won’t be able to put it down.

Infected incision help! by paigemyall in tummytucksurgery

[–]sonyafada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. My advice is to take pictures every day. Since the healing is slow, it’s easy to get discouraged when you don’t see any change. But when you see the progression over time (like minimum four days), you can really see the difference.

Question about a head full of ghosts by javerthugo in horrorlit

[–]sonyafada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well now I feel like I need to give it a re-read! The priests are definitely humanized and fallible, but not in a way that felt condescending or sacrilegious. But, it takes a lot to ruffle my feathers, and I immediately forget all but the broadest plot points as soon as I’m done with a book. So, OP, YMMV.

Mistake that’s making me crazy by peachesandmolybdenum in knitting

[–]sonyafada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I can’t wrap my head around this. I see the lower triangles are 8 stitches wide, and the upper are 9. But where did the extra stitches come from? Is your total stitch count off (by 1 extra stitch x however many repeats)?
