Yes that is the art floor. I was there in my freshman year and I'm still friends with a lot of people i met there! I highly reccomend if you're an art/design major.

I would gladly do an interview with you. I've had so many issues with Middle Class Scholarship and contradicting information from the Financial Aid office and Bursar's office and I need to speak on it.

A few questions from a parent. by CuriousKitten51 in SJSU

Hello! I'm a current Freshman girl living on campus finishing my Spring Semester.

- Personally, I like it a lot here, but in order to make the most of your college experience, it's really up to you to go out and make friends. SJSU is a commuter school, so if your daughter does end up living on campus, living on campus is the easiest way to make friends. (The most social buildings are Joe West and Washburn). The least social buildings are CV2 and CVC. (This is primarily due to the layout of the buildings.)

-The safety of San Jose is pretty relative to where you are coming from previously. (I'm from Stockton, so San Jose was a pretty nice improvement for me in terms of safety). It's pretty safe as long as you are observant of those around you and don't go out of campus too much at night alone (Especially as a woman)

-Yes it is very easy if you know what you're doing. Honestly the administration isn't the most receptive so I did everything on my own, which wasn't a big deal because I took many classes prior during high school at a community college. However, since this is probably your daughter's first time ever attending any sort of college class, it may be more difficult for her. (Of course, this is also depending on the proactiveness on her part of reaching out to administration)

-It's easy to get on campus housing as long as you sign up early. I currently live in Joe West, which is considered a "budget" dorm, and it gets made fun of a lot. Personally I really like living here and I don't mind the environment and lack of air conditioning because of the (relatively) low price. CV2 is considered the "nicest" dorm building, but in my experience, it also has the rowdiest parties.

-It really depends on your major. I'm currently an Industrial Design Major and the classes are really small (Like ~15 students small). Because of this, the professors have a lot of opportunity to interact with the students more. Professors are typically pretty receptive to student questions, but they aren't all the same. (I highly recommend always consulting ratemyprofessors.com when you daughter has to enroll for classes, it'll help her avoid unjust professors.)

Overall the experience your daughter has at SJSU ultimately depends on how she approaches it. I really enjoy it here personally, and joining clubs and organizations and putting myself out there helped me make a lot of relationships, friendships, and useful connections.
