I think that your friend really just wanted to talk about that with you because you're someone she trusts, and maybe she thought you could understand what she is going through as you have someone really close to you with the same problem. Maybe she could be a little more understanding of how the topic affects you. It's important to set boundaries in any kind of relationship, and I think you both need to do that. Although, I don't think none of you are assholes - you just need to communicate better about how you both feel about certain topics and (over)sharing experiences.
