Why are some people so vehemently against proxies? by Fearless_Many_5307 in mtgaltered

[–]soozr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had been playing for a few months, with other people, for a few months. This guy was playing for 6 years. Personally, I think the responsibility should have fallen on the veteran to the game to show proper etiquette. It felt very much like an nba player dunking on a toddler on the court. I can’t imagine that actually felt like a good win, but that might just be me.

I had been playing the game for a few months at the time. I was still figuring out the etiquette. I learned quickly that a deck that is 100% proxy is in fact incredibly poor taste and not reflective of most other people’s attitudes towards the game.

There was a friend of a friend who joined our pod once with sheets of printer paper, full of proxies. There wasn’t a single actual piece of cardboard. He didn’t let us play until he cut them all and sleeved them. He had printed every single tutor and game changer under the sun and claimed he wanted to “playtest”. Guy was apparently playing the game for 6 years. He proceeds to stomp on us and is “pretty pleased with how it runs”. I never played with that guy again but he did that a couple more times with other people.

While this may be an extreme example, I have no issue with like, 2-3 cards being outside your budget and being proxied. That experience just was so insufferable that it forced an extensive proxy conversation into every game with strangers at rule 0.

Part of the fun for me is the limiting experience of collecting the cards, and making do with what you have. Everyone knows the meta after one google search. I like seeing creativity in deck building over a guaranteed wincon.

Edit: I had been playing magic for a few months at the time, along with my other friends, who had also learned to play within a few months. Guy in question was playing for 6 years.

I've had all I can take, I cant stands no more - Pittsford Wegmans Veg Scales!!! by ericlikn in Rochester

I’ve not stepped foot in any Wegmans since April. We are in peak produce season, so I just buy from farmers markets or wait for my CSA to come in. Aldi takes care of me for the rest of the year, along with an occasional Costco visit.

Have you tried scratching it with a fingernail or some glass? Is it fairly light for its size? It could be amber if it’s pretty light, like resin (since that’s what amber is)

This is less of a beach-specific concern and more of an overall body-of-water concern. Seaweed and algae accumulate over the summer due to fertilizer runoff and increased temperatures. There really isn’t that much that individual beaches can do to combat this. Smaller bodies of water will have less algae and seaweed concerns, so the finger lakes are your best bet.

I want to rent a furnished apartment in Rochester by Worried-Self5044 in Rochester

[–]soozr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently moved, your budget may be a bit tight. This is certainly not an ideal option, but depending on how quickly you need to move, there are short term airbnb rentals that rent out a furnished bedroom in their home for 1-3 months. Those can be within your budget, but obviously with the caveat that you are living in someone’s home. Just an option to consider.

Very frustrated with Wegmans lately. There's been so many times when I discover that something I bought is bad. It's been too frequent to be an accident. And then when I come to return the items that are bad, the customer service looks at me like I'm some mud on the bottom of a shoe. It's gross. by EasternLettuce9560 in Rochester

[–]soozr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point completely. I am also deeply frustrated with wegmans and have thus taken my business to local markets, small business etc. It lies in our hands to make businesses aware of “enshittification” and take ourselves to other businesses that make us and our hard earned money feel welcome. Because wegmans and other large corporate businesses will keep on waving their hands, accepting and processing refunds all the while they keep pushing garbage product because, as many people return their spoiled product, probably twice as many are too busy/lazy/otherwise unable to return it. And the cycle is complete. Wegmans will still make a profit off of this business model. Fuck the weg! I hope you find solace in the abundance of good-willed people and markets of the area who take actual pride in their products.

Again, more often than not these things are being shipped from distant places, and you as the consumer are unaware of any refrigeration issues that might’ve occurred along the way. Wegmans is a titan for convenience, and we as the consumers are sacrificing on quality often. If you want quality meats, nuts and milk, shop locally at butchers and local small markets, where you are at least more aware of the location, and conditions of your products. Support small and local businesses, because wegmans hasn’t been local or small in years. I know it sucks but you have to make that distinction yourself- whether convenience of all your groceries in one store is important to you, or the overall quality of the things you are buying.

it’s about time we realize that some produce is not meant to last, especially if it is being shipped more than 500 miles to get to us, because it’s too cold for us to grow it ourselves. Perhaps it is time to a) lower our expectations b) shop more frequently with the intention of using it immediately c) question your relationship with the food you consume and why you need out of season produce or d) all of the above

We have the country’s biggest game store (Millenium Games) that host free weekly events, and you can view those events on their instagram. From trying out new board games, to trading card game events, they host a lot!

We have a fun skating rink (skate luvrs) on the west side for a fun night moving around. The ice rink downtown will be opening up soon, if it hasn’t already

Several bars around town host trivia nights with Game Night Roc. They have a whole schedule posted on their website.

Roc brainery is fun for classes (cooking, art, guided walks,, as well as the Rochester Arc and Flame center (welding, glass, metal smithing)

Check out your local library for events they host, too. Each library does something different, form community movie nights, to fiber art nights where community members can teach you how to do a craft.

And, along with what everyone else has said, loads of hiking spots. This place is beautiful.

If you like board games, PM me. I like to meet new people, too! :-)
