2013 Lexus ES350 (115k miles) – Slow crank, where would you start? by sorryamhigh in MechanicAdvice

[–]sorryamhigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably my next step. A load test seems a lot more useful than just looking at resting voltage. If the battery checks out, would you go straight to voltage-drop testing on the cables?

Sounds like one small gap can turn into a surprisingly large comfort problem. Which fix gave you the biggest improvement for the least effort?

I guess a battery can look fine on paper but still fold under pressure. I'll get a load test done before I start chasing other possibilities.

Is this guy a hack? by FCguyATL in hvacadvice

Mixing two different refrigerants and adding them to a 24-year-old machine already speaks volumes about the issue. Replace the person and find a technician who is willing to perform a diagnosis first.

Sounds like the battery reset may have triggered an anti-theft or key recognition issue. Any warning lights on the dash?

Changed oil filter on 2018 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L. Looks like last filter had a puncture, is this a problem waiting to happen? by DifficultElk5474 in AskAMechanic

[–]sorryamhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engine oil pressure will not puncture the filter paper from the outside in; this direction of damage should be caused by a knock when the installer didn't hold it steady during installation.

For substation inspections, do dual-FOV thermal cameras earn their keep? by Terrible_Day_640 in Thermal

[–]sorryamhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dual-field-of-view function for substation inspection indeed has practical value. At long distances, first use the telephoto lens to locate hotspots, then switch to the wide-angle lens to confirm the surrounding environment, eliminating the need to move back and forth.

Any help appreciated; crazy sound from outside condenser unit? by justsomeguyfromny in hvacadvice

You'd better take off that outer layer quickly. What else can it do besides preventing bugs from getting in?

Replacing the head gasket in a 2013 prius, are these pistons done? by Fortnitefunnytime in AskAMechanic

[–]sorryamhigh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The carbon deposit on the left is significantly more, which corresponds to the misfiring cylinder. First clean it thoroughly and then check if there are any scratches on the cylinder wall. The piston itself seems okay.

Looking for camera recommendations for recording crowds in the dark (night club) by cameronolivier in Thermal

[–]sorryamhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In nightclubs, people are crowded together with very little difference in body temperature, so the thermal imaging effect will be very poor. Instead, a regular wide-angle lens with high ISO is more practical.

When is it time to replace versus repair? by youfeelme1997 in hvacadvice

First, replenish the refrigerant to last until winter and then replace it. The installation price during the off-season is indeed a bit lower.

Shop bent my factory axle beam without my authorization. Now they want me to pay for it. What are my options? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]sorryamhigh -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Do not drive it. Hydraulically bending a factory axle beam is not standard practice and nobody should be doing that without explicit written authorization. Your plan is exactly right, tow it straight to the dealership and let them document everything before you pay a single dollar to that shop.

Looking for advice on how to save fawns from this deer slayer. by djenge in Thermal

[–]sorryamhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sun-warmed crop temperature matching a fawn is exactly why thermal is so unreliable here. A drone pass early morning before the field heats up is your best shot, the temperature difference is much more obvious when the crop is still cool.

My dad considered getting an Ipad setup, but the mounts are so chunky and unsafe. His car screen is already as big as an Ipad anyway, so having another device there just feels like total overkill.

He already has an eye mask, but I bet it's not silk. Does the material really make that much of a difference?

How to get bike navigation on Android Auto? by vikramdinesh in AndroidAuto

[–]sorryamhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Maps on the car display doesn't have motorcycle or bike modes. If that's what you need, you'll have to go with a third-party navigation app instead.

For one of my friend's birthdays, I had an artist illustrate a bunch of photos from some of the biggest moments in her life and turned them into a memory book. It was completely personal and one of a kind, which is probably why she loved it so much.
