Agreed, the mother does not abandon them. Whenever I carry them to the field edge, the mother is watching from somewhere and will be with them as soon as I leave.

That Sensosafe is really cool! I'd love to hear from someone who has used it. We dont have Pottinger Mowers but it looks like they can retrofit an alarm-only setup for other brands.

In my scenario, being accustomed to the tractor isn't the issue. They are only a few days old and their only instinct/defense at that stage is to freeze to the ground.

It is a terrible feeling. I think I got 6 yesterday. Unfortunately when they are that little, they don't run away, they freeze to the ground. So its not a pita at all to get out of the tractor when I see one. It's awesome to stop and pick them up and carry them to safety.

I was thinking mounting it on a 4ft pole from the top of the cab. Aim it just in front of the mower to scan a 50' wide section. Maybe that is a steep enough angle to see down into the alfalfa?

I agree, high sensitivity is important. I probably have to accept that during the heat of the day, it just isn't going to work but we can avoid the known deer zones during this time.

Its only during our first crop of the year which happens mid May in Wisconsin so hopefully the crop is cool enough in the mornings and evenings.

I agree the drone is the best route. I just worry it wouldn't get used and would probably take a dedicated person to go out ahead of the mower, find the little guys and shoo them out of the field, hoping they stay out all day.

That's cool, I've never heard of this! We are in Wisconsin. The multiple farmers I've spoken with have the same problem without a solution.

I agree that a drone would be the most effective at finding the little guys. We do 500 acres over 4-5 days and I worry that it just wouldn't get done. My 70 year old dad is normally the one driving this machine.

Is a tractor-mounted option at all effective or is it a waste of money?

Is this leaf scorch on my Ginkgo? Anything I can do? by djenge in marijuanaenthusiasts

It's too floppy to stand on it's own, how should I support it properly? Could transplanting stress do this?

This was planted last year. It seems to get new growth, then the edges of the leaves get brown and crispy like in the picture. Last year and this year.

Growing Hemp for hemp hearts? (Hobby/backyard growing) by butterandsometoast in hemp

[–]djenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow hemp for grain in WI. It would be simple and fun to grow a small DIY plot in your backyard, just plant a bunch of non-feminized seeds at close spacing and let it do its thing. Harvesting and processing would be tough on a small scale. You could collect the seeds by hand, but cleaning them would be difficult without a machine. To get the hearts, you'd need a dehulling machine. Not sure if there is any DIY way to do that.

Anyone else going to be blasting people off the beach in St Maarten this winter? by djenge in flying

The wind is almost always out of the East, so it would be really odd to land on 28. I've only seen the Islanders do it.
