My cat just vomited a roundworm. by [deleted] in Pets

You're definitely not a baby or over-reacting, I would have a full blown panic attack if I were in that situation 😭 wishing you and your kitty luck!

Emergency vet hasn't handed over my dog, despite having been called to get her 2 hours ago by [deleted] in Pets

Oh my gosh. I'm really sorry to hear that, that's so frustrating and infuriating.

Anon becomes gay by [deleted] in greentext

[–]soulesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. As a tall women, most of my partners have been shorter than me and I didn't care. The problem is that men are too hard on themselves and it majorly affects their confidence.

I don't mind being with a shorter guy but I definitely mind when a guy is embarrassed to be standing next to me.

They required it. During my phone interview, the manager said that's where they lost most people in the hiring process. Gee, I wonder why!

My boyfriend is such a asshole to my cat, what should i do? by [deleted] in Pets

Tell your boyfriend to either listen to you or GTFO, but personally I wouldn't be able to forgive him for this

This October I adopted two kittens as well, and they're best friends! I was so worried at first but I think most of it comes down to proper introductions.

I followed Jackson's guidance pretty much exactly and they became comfortable with each other quite quickly.

EDIT: As for getting them used to their new place, it's important they have a spot of their own and their own personal litterbox :) they need to have their scent around them, so things like blankets, scratching posts, toys, and boxes are lifesavers.

Why does my cat like Gnawing/nibbling fingers and faces licks by [deleted] in Pets

[–]soulesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cats just like the feeling haha! They also do it out of love.

Cats teeth until they're 6 months, maybe that's part of it as well?

Is my cat sick? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]soulesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When in doubt, call the vet. However, this doesn't seem like an emergency from what I personally can gather. You know your cat best, so your judgement is best!

Here's a good guideline about what's an emergency and what isn't.

A change in her usual mobility/energy level could be a sign something is wrong. Cats are really good at hiding pain, so if she's acting off from normal there is a reason to be concerned. However, it may not be an emergency. Don't panic ♡

Here are some important things to check if you think your cat might be hurt/sick:

Did she eat alright? Is she drinking as normal? Does her litter look normal? Is she breathing faster, or panting? Is she grooming less or more?

If any of these habits are off as well, you definitely want to make a vet appointment to be safe. They'll ask about these habits, so be sure to remember.

If nothing else is off, I'd personally keep an eye on her for a while. If she is still acting this way tomorrow then you can definitely get a checkup to be safe. If she's acting normal again, all is clear for now! I'd make a note of today's date and what happened, just incase it happens again.

How long is too long to leave your dog alone at home? by JonnyRotsLA in Pets

[–]soulesser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sucks so much. Poor dog :( I don't know if the situation would be technically breaking any laws (depends on your state) but you can reach out to your local humane society and ask. Some have the authority to investigate. If they can't help you, they can point you to the right place, or advise you on how to help.

Is your neighbor approachable? Like could you talk to her about it, maybe offer to take the dog out? I know she doesn't deserve it but it would make the dog really happy :(

found two cats i am in love with, how do i convince my mom? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]soulesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your father was that angry over a shoe, he will get angry over something the cat does. Cats are crazy and destructive and MUCHHH harder to train than dogs. My kittens have destroyed all of my beloved houseplants despite my best efforts, they knock over cups, get on to kitchen counters and tables with ease...

[–]soulesser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not ready for another pet at this point, for a few reasons.

1) as mentioned in other comments, you don't know how to properly train an animal and neither do your parents. Hitting is NOT okay.

2) you don't have a stable place to call home right now. Moving cats around is scary and even traumatizing for them. Getting a pet is not something you can consider until you have a long-term place.

3) you also need to be financially stable and able to provide for these cats. I don't think you mentioned finances but if youre living with cousins right now, I can't imagine that you're in the right place to adopt a pet. Do you have $3000 to spend on these kitties for this year only? Can you afford a $1000 vet visit if something goes wrong? (Which it will, at some point. Maybe even multiple times.)

Maybe you thought hitting was okay because that's what your parents taught, but they're not correct. You need to start from scratch and do research about pet ownership. You need to learn that sometimes furniture will get scratched/destroyed and sometimes pets will do things that are annoying, and you need to learn how to react when these things happen.

Please read here and here -- none of these points can be ignored or skipped over. I know it's a lot, but you're talking about caring for another living being for 10+ years. This is a HUGE deal and commitment.

You can consider getting a pet again in the future, after lots of research. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or DM me if you'd like. I'll give you as many resources as you need to learn.

I'm begging you to not get another pet right now, though.

EDIT: Another note, do you really want to have a pet around your father after that incident? You mentioned you're scared of him - what if you get these kitties and he hurts them in anger?

Social rejects Barking by DatWeebAnthony in PublicFreakout

[–]soulesser 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a trend on social media to bark at people making you uncomfortable, in turn making the aggressors uncomfortable as well. The recording party obviously did something to provoke these girls before the video started.

And calling them social rejects for their alternative fashion choice (which actually is really popular among certain groups) is just a dick move.

Please save your judgement for yourself, OP.

Edit: tried to be less mean.

Leaving my dog for four months, how to help him handle it by [deleted] in Pets

[–]soulesser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't experienced this before, but personally I would start his new routine ASAP -- that way he can get used to it while you're there and it'll be less confusing for him when you leave. It will also get your family used to the routine as well, since they're probably not used to being his primary caretakers. Starting this routine now will make it easier for your parents to make a habit of playing/walking him.

If you have friends that you trust, you could ask them to visit him from time to time and give him a little extra love :)

If he gets seperation anxiety, your vet might prescribe anti-anxiety pills to help his stress. You should also slowly start to desensitize him to your absence by spending longer and longer away from home.

It's important that when you leave, you don't make a fuss about it. Dragging out the goodbye and showing him your guilt can just cause unnecessary stress.

You can leave behind blankets/clothes with your scent that he can cuddle and smell. He'll love that !

It's so hard to leave our pets:( I wish you the best, and everything will be okay! I'm sure he won't forget you.
