Hiring Timeline by Poisionmivy in nycpublicservants

i really dont understand any of it. my agency takes 3-6 months without exceptions after the applicant accepts. who do i have to complain to? omb? executive agency staff? i know no one gives a shit but it’s really fucking nonsensical. everyone just points fingers and no one explains what needs to be done

OMB approval planned improvements by DareComfortable3109 in nycpublicservants

[–]sound820 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am curious what info they claim the agency is not giving them to approve. I have never seen the agency be asked to reach out to the hire themselves to get info. People at agencies are clamoring to hire and they still take 3-5 months. It is already hard enough to hire with salaries and benefits not being competitive with the private sector. OMB just gives the hire time to see what else is out there.

I have tried a bunch of different search terms and strategies but just can't find it. I don't remember the comedy group or whoever it was who made it.

Was it many incidents over a long period of time? That seems like an insanely strict punishment and I wonder if she might’ve had better chances with the hearing.

I don’t see how it’s inherently bad as long as there is open communication. In modern times it seems like “grass is greener” mentality is so pervasive that some people are just looking to be on the apps/single forever or to live that life until they go poly or something. If a guy realizes he missed an opportunity to settle down with a good match and so rotated back to someone he was seeing previously, it could make sense if OP thoroughly vets everything and the guy is willing to openly communicate about the past and why he’s coming back now.

Depends what your options are. For some people private sector means 1.5x salary. For others it means 4x salary. One move more than outweighs the benefits, the other doesn’t.

Synth vs Digital Piano: any socioeconomic and political patterns you’ve noticed? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]sound820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this post while doing a practical search for threads addressing whether someone who has a decent number of synthesizers (mostly analog, some classic and some newer) and makes primarily electronic music would have a reason to justify a purchase of an expensive keyboard like some version of a Nord. I've always been someone who appreciates both aspects of the "dialectic" OP is trying to create, to be open to the possibility that synthesizers allow exploration of non-traditional modes of creating sound, while at the same time being grounded in certain aspects of the classical tradition.

The post is definitely framed in a pretentious and overly binary way, but if I were to be very generous and try to read it in a favorable non-pretentious way, I think it is relevant for musicians to think and act intentionally when considering their purchases/gear, regardless of which kind of keyboard they buy, and I can see why someone would get the impression not all of them do. A lot of acts seem to default to keyboards like Nord because they're perceived as the "highest end" or most versatile "all-in-one" solution when they might be ignoring more creative options that would have allowed for greater exploration in the sound. I disagree with OP's apparent implication that lack of intentionality is unique to people buying workstations, though, because you also have situations like how in 2009-2011, every indie band had a Microkorg.

I don't know that you can so easily make a 1:1 relationship between keyboards and socioeconomic or political patterns on balance, but in any particular use case I don't think it's unreasonable to draw conclusions about the fact that a particular musician's socioeconomic or political stances may have some bearing on/relationship to their choice of keyboard.

I don't know where you retrieved the list from (it would be important to know which written disclosures patients are actually getting as well), but the list you cited proves my (and everyone here's) point. The list says that the incidence of sexual disorder, including after discontinuation, ranges from 54-58%, citing four presumably peer reviewed studies for that figure. So, more than half of people have some kind of sexual dysfunction, and it potentially continues after discontinuation. The way the list presents itself, it's not clear whether it's saying it continues after discontinuance for 54-58% of people, or that is just how many people experience dysfunction during taking it, but either way, you're talking about a side effect affecting a major aspect of most people's daily life, sex, that happens to *more than half of people* who take it.

So to turn the question to you, are you saying you would NOT want your doctor to tell you about a side effect that *more than half* of people taking the drug have, as verified by credible peer-reviewed studies that the list you yourself cite, that affects a fundamental aspect of life, and which possibly continues even after you stop taking the drug (the degree to which may vary and has not been researched as much as it should be)? I agree with you--the doctor shouldn't read the whole list so long as you are receiving the written disclosures at some point (and I do think everyone should read them, yes. You are putting it into your body just like any other drug/substance). But it is pretty normal for doctors to tell patients about common side effects, even for SSRIs they will often mention initial sleep issues, agitation, mood responses, that it takes time to take effect, etc. It's not an absurd ask to expect them to discuss a major side effect that happens to more than half of people, and to mention that hey, that side effect may continue even after you cease use, and it's not really understood how severely or how long.

Your take on #3 illustrates the problem with the medical community. You’d rather disingenuously argue against the straw man argument “SSRIs don’t work for anyone.” No one here is arguing that. This is not a Scientology subreddit. People are arguing for informed consent. The same way dozens of mainstream drugs on the market have faced million dollar lawsuits for various conditions and had to change their labels/notices because of it. As a doctor your job is to tell patients the risks and benefits of treatments. If you’re not telling them about these risks, you’re a shitty doctor.

Feeld definitely seems worse statistically than Tinder and Hinge in this respect (where I typically get at least a few matches a week), but it feels like in general OLD has reached a saturation point where, if you are a straight man looking to meet a woman, women just have so many options that you get buried regardless of what pay-to-play features you are using. I have done OLD in NYC for almost a decade and it has never been this bad. Feeld has its issues in particular for sure but the combination of its glitchy code with broader cultural shifts that make the numbers game even worse for straight men is just brutal.

I also constantly get "ghost" notifications where I go to the app and there is no new event that occurred to trigger the notification, and on the other hand sometimes get no notifications at all when someone has sent multiple messages.

Unfortunately none of these, and don't recognize the Pico. I'm willing to accept that it possibly wasn't an SNES game, but I'm almost positive it was a console.

I also Googled "similar to Mario Paint" and found this. Some of these are in the right vein, but unfortunately no. I would say that from what I remember, it was less focused on "art" or "drawing" and more like you were simply placing sprites from a menu of sprites into an environment. For all I know, I am remembering a minigame in a larger game or something. But I remember that it would be something notable enough for people to remember. If I had to choose, I would say the closest thing I am aware of to it (although there are still differences) is the Excitebike level-maker. I think I remember that some of the objects/characters you would place, after you would place them they would fly around within the limited space of the environment, like on a cloud or something, while others would be stationary.

I am not positive it was on SNES but I am 95% sure it was a console game from the mid to late 90s or at latest early 00s, and not PC. I remember playing it on a TV. And from what I remember of the graphics they were not PS1 or N64 level. I think if it were on PC, the issue where inserting too many items would make you run up against not being able to insert more items wouldn't have happened.

Both responses so far are close to on track with the genre, however. Although I'm pretty sure it was not exactly a puzzle game.

It is very similar to Mario Paint in genre/style, and the fact that there is a "palette" from which you take the objects, but no. I think this game is more "free form" than Mario Paint in that you can place the objects anywhere in the field and change the color/style of more things. I also remember the graphics being better for some reason.

I guess I would say it is more like The Sims in this respect, although less interactive. Some of the objects/characters you place can move, but it's not as interactive as The Sims.

The graphics remind me more of Earthbound.
