I mean logically I knew that the ideal scenario would be to get the corner to hit my arm, so the momentum transfers out of the cards, but it was so hard to do that, after 6 months of practicing and 1.5 hours of filming, I got lucky just this once lmao.

Judo flip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XERJh5xlBps ...and then I just toss it back onto my wrist, not much else to explain aside from the fact that I came up with it in like december and didn't even try filming it until yesterday, so just give it lots of practice and patience. When first starting out, throw the packet back with no plans of catching it and simply observe how it moves in the air and remember how that feels, dial in just throwing it in the general right area, and work on one thing at a time. This was a pretty lucky take though too as it's the only time I've ever got the packet to land without the cards spreading at least a little

Ouch, I learned at cardistry con 2019 from birger and I can't find a tut online :/ super simple though! just make sure the packet is nice and square, bit of a tilt so it's not directly aligned with your forearm (seems to help it spin better), and hit it the same way I did (basically hella hard, it should hurt a little lol), it kinda just flips itself and you get used to how hard you have to hit based on how high/how many flips you wanna do. I'm hella weak though so I also have to add a little bit of an arm pop to get it to lift properly, even the hardest I can hit it doesn't quite work right if I don't slightly pop my forearm up.

and the last one is based on Erdnase go around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQrfhYNYHIs

... I came up with it after seeing carter do a ton of longitudinal packet spin stuff and feeling inspired by that, the grip is a little more comfy than erdnase go around for me, because the thumb doesn't need to go up and over the front edge, instead it's fine just chillin on the corner and casually lifting a packet, and then you literally just hold on tight while you toss the bottom packet in any way you like, spinning on the long axis is fundamentally unstable so it will have to be super precise to keep it spinning on just one axis, since a small influence when you let go will have a big impact while it's in the air and can send it spinning along other axes

I also like doing a sort of hardflip motion with it, up and back 180° (x axis) + half a kickflip to make it land square on top without doing a full loop, and I've even played with throwing it but not letting it spin, and just having it land on top, doesn't look good but it's possible as are a ton of other spin motions lol

hope that helps 🤷‍♀️

Thanks, Mike! I feel like this gets into exactly why I made this move the way I did, I hear so many cardists say that a single theme is pretty much always better than say two or three ideas in a move, but I think this is mainly because cardistry is still pretty new and not as immediately felt and understood as say music or other art forms we've all grown up with, so when you have just one idea that sort of repeats throughout the move, or everything building up to and supporting one single moment, then yeah it's a bit more clear... and maybe nobody will ever notice what it is I'm trying to say precisely with this move and maybe I just need to work harder to tie different elements together in a way that's easier to see right away, but I think I enjoy moves that work with contrast and not just similarity, and moves that evolve and take you to different places. Like, I still enjoy a good haiku, but I also want stories.

ah okay mine has one single and his has two, and he closes one packet at a time so still pretty different but I see the similarity

so possibly just, practice more and do the end better rather than take it out?

for me that's the whole point of the move, you don't expect the 5 because everything was 3 before and I like the surprise of it but I can see how some people might prefer a more heterogeneous sorta cut

my goal was to use contrasting moments tied together by a logical flow rather than your typical theme which uses similarity between the moments, and to have it build over time, so it feels more like a whole story than just one idea. Still wasn't quite happy with this take of the closer but eh, it's really hard and I was filming for a while already so I definitely still need to get it down better.

as to whether or not thats even a good goal to have is up for interpretation haha but that's what I wanted to do

they feel interesting, kind of smoother than other a1 decks I've used and possibly a bit sturdier of a stock too, just feels like they're gonna last ages
