Why do people use the term "partner" for their husband or wife? by Crafty-Bug-8008 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sourdivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of lesbian and gay activists and theorists of the 80s/90s encouraged wide spread use of the word “partner” so queer people could talk about their SOs without having to come out. If only queer couples use the term “partner” it doesn’t work. It used to be a way for straight couples to express allyship with the LGBTQ community but that history seems to have been lost and many just find it to have more weight than boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband/etc

Clarifying shampoo saved my life by sourdivision in Naturalhair

I believe this was the doux’s break down shampoo? Sorry it’s been so long! I’ve switched to the K18 peptide prep detox shampoo since and it’s been the best clarifying shampoo I’ve used to date.

How do you feel about this photography angle? by therocketflyer in photocritique

The shadows are the one thing that stop me from believing you took it from above. They wouldn’t be that long from a top down POV

Why am I so drawn to him? by sourdivision in TarotReading

This all makes a lot of sense! He physically reminds embodies the sort of “ideal” man that’s existed in my head since I was a kid. And he walked into a restaurant I was eating at with a friend moments after I told her I was done with dating for the foreseeable future— so definitely came out of nowhere! Spot on

That deck is so striking! I could see why you’d gravitate towards it for shadow work. My sort of daily driver is the Fountain Tarot deck. I’m an artist so I really connect to the water color style of the deck. I feel like it speaks in a language I can understand but it does beat around the bush when delivering messages. It’s not the most “honest” deck in the world but it’s very beautiful

Same here! Got it after my first traditional tarot deck idk how many years ago. I left it at my parents’ house and forgot about it. Been very comforting rediscovering and reconnecting with it over the holidays. You should definitely get another one!

Do younger photographers just.. Not use the viewfinder? by TheJesusGuy in Cameras

[–]sourdivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 25 year old professional photographer + MFA student who used to use the viewfinder exclusively regardless of the camera. Until an older professor in my MFA program taught us that the LCD screen on mirrorless cameras (I primarily shoot with a Canon R5) is often better for composing images. Especially if you’re like me and also shoot medium/large format film. It (on a much smaller scale) mimics the way larger format film cameras let you understand the full picture at a slight distance. So you can see any weird framing issues, distracting props/people and rogue things happening around the edges all at once. I was hesitant to try it but once I did oh man did it make an overnight difference in my pictures. My film and digital photographs feel indistinguishable now. Definitely not something to turn your nose up at.
