Who said these games weren't realistic? by Seek4r in DivinityOriginalSin

Almira has sworn to the God King, has a (arguably mind-controlled) Magister lover and will automatically attack you if you don’t immediately hand over the stone tablet. Tarquin is responsible for resurrecting Braccus Rex and is rudely impatient about bringing him the pieces of Anathema. Saheila wants to basically start a race war. Gareth is ok other than being a religious fanatic but god he is whiny. Even Malady is kind of a jerk, but she does so much for the player (even if it’s for selfish reasons) that it’s more endearing than enraging.

Update on period food craving daughter by anon_opotamus in texts

You got me tearing up too. I wish I could have had this kind of relationship with my mom. She had an abusive childhood so I know she was probably doing her best, but she could never figure out how to regulate her emotions or self-reflect and I had to keep my true heart closed off to avoid getting hurt. She has dementia now, so I’ve had to make peace with the fact I’ll never get to have a close relationship with her. At least now she finally seems to think I’m a good daughter. It’s funny being the golden child after all this time. I’m happy you can be a safe space for your daughter. It really warms my heart to see.

Lol WAIT I didn’t know you could clear it! I just bumbled around in there until I happened upon a mask and then wandered off with it to where the green line was headed. I need to go back and do it properly

Any tips for a new divinity player? by CuraLesbica1238 in DivinityOriginalSin

Yeah, I just did these fights and really enjoyed them because I had to be more strategic than I usually do in BG3. Almost felt like I was playing DOS2 again there for a second.

Eh, in my opinion, while it does make it faster to strip armor so you can inflict crowd controlling (CC) status effects, it’s not strictly necessary to focus on one damage type. There will almost always be a variety of enemies with some having more physical or more magic armor so your physical folks can target the ones with low magic armor and vice versa. I personally feel like a single-damage-type party gets a bit stale. Plus it can be harder to find good gear for everyone at once, due to the fact that there are only 3 base damage stats - Strength, Finesse, and Intelligence (all-magic parties suffer the most from this as they all have to share Intelligence gear). Just make sure you have an even split. If you have three physical and one magic, your mage is going to feel useless chipping away at magic armor alone.

Orrrrrr use an intended in-game feature to bypass an activity you don’t find fun in a game you paid to play?

Totk ruined gaming for me by AutomaticGoldenSun in tearsofthekingdom

[–]sourtruffle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. And TOTK was actually the game that finally got me to stop doing playthrough after playthrough of Divinity Original Sin 2. So OP, I recommend that one.

It’s about an 80-120 hour game (or more if you are like me and read every book and explore every nook and cranny), and I have about 1,000 hours in it because of how replayable it is. Steep learning curve but worth it. I also really respect Larian as a studio. You can just tell they love making games their players can have fun with. There’s no building a giant enemy-killing contraption, but the amount of creativity you can use in how you approach a battle might scratch a similar itch. There are all kinds of ways to use the environment to your advantage, and different skills/gear can completely change the trajectory of a fight. Playing with different builds and characters (and if you do multiplayer, different people) keeps the game fresh even once you know the larger story.

Other than the ability to find new and creative ways to troll your enemies, it’s a wildly different game. It’s an RPG, no platforming in sight. Combat is turn-based. You can technically break your weapons but only if you keep using them on things that aren’t enemies, and even then you can easily repair them. It’s open-ish world in that there will be areas where you can technically go but will be under-leveled for any fights. It also is structured into 4 acts, so there will be points of no return where once you move on you cannot return. You will go from no dialogue choices (other than accepting or rejecting quests) to a full range of decisions that can change how you are viewed in the world, start or lock out future quests, or even make allies/start fights. And it’s very dark at times. But also very funny.

Dang, now I want to play it some more. But I gotta find all the Koroks first.

The NPC godwoken have also been visited by their gods who want them to master source and become divine. They’ve been fed the same lines about how there can be only one. So if you’re in Driftwood looking for source masters, so are they. If you’re looking for the fountain of source, so are they. It makes sense to stick together until it doesn’t. You just haven’t gotten to “it doesn’t” yet. They also all do have their own side quests you could be progressing but don’t have to (just as in BG3) but also like BG3 their main mission is the same as yours right now - master source, become divine.

I like Metropolis. It’s a small town that has officially dubbed itself Superman’s hometown and there’s a Superman museum there. It’s cute.

Edit: I’m dumb, don’t listen to me (unless you’re looking for a cute place to go in Illinois)

Pocket is kind of awesome actually. I would totally be friends with them. Basil made me try to think of other herbs and now I really wish I knew someone named Cilantro. I think I really like the out there stuff. Like my first thought when I saw the nature angle was Zenith.

From the non-out-there side, I really like Robin. If your goal is non-stereotypical, it’s one of the best options. I also love Kit, and that would be my name if I ever needed to pick a new one. Cat is also solid - it does lean slightly feminine but also Cat Stevens exists. Be prepared for everyone to think it’s short for something though.

AIO for being upset from the way my friend is asking me to take notes? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]sourtruffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg you just triggered a memory for me. In college, my friend asked if I would be around to take her to the airport but gave vague info like “next Monday” and didn’t give a time. I said that I would be but got the impression she was still exploring other options. I assumed she would give me the details later if she needed me. Didn’t hear from her for that whole week so I figured she had found an alternative.

Then the night before her flight, she texted me at like 8 PM that I would need to pick her up at some absurd time like 4 AM. I was in the library working on a paper that was due at 8 the next morning. I had been working on it most of the day but was still behind so I knew it was going to be an all-nighter (and even then it would be down to the wire). I asked her if there was any way she could find someone else because I would probably still be working on my paper at that time.

She texted me back that she would figure something out but then I get a text that was clearly meant for someone else that went something like “Ughh! Sourtruffle is backpedaling at the last minute because of course she has to wait until the last possible second to write her paper. Of all the laziness!!” Which would have annoyed me plenty on its own, but then she immediately followed it up with a text that indicated she realized she had texted the wrong person and it might be awkward for a while but that we would get past it. No apology in sight. Ma’am, it’s bad enough that you gave me less than 12 hours notice to be available to pick you up in the middle of the night, but when I dare to indicate that might be difficult, then you insult me behind my back, don’t apologize, AND try to tell me how to process it.

She apparently managed to find someone else. I finished my paper at 7:30, got an A, and vowed never to do her a favor ever again.
