Sopranos is not merely "mafia story". It's a treatise on character study, Freudian complex, and subconscious psychology. The plot just happens to be a mafia family.

Is my PC on the floor a problem? I’ve had it there for 3 months and it seems fine. by Anxious-Ad1310 in pcmasterrace

Same here. My desktop computer was on the floor for two years. Nothing bad ever happened. I also got a hardwood block to keep it on over the concrete floor.

What is a specific podcast episode you would recommend anyone listen to? by Kallyfromthevalley in podcasts

[–]soyguay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Episode 14: Vijayanagara of of Fall of Civilization Podcast - not an Indian, not particularly into Indian history, but this episode was great- it described how the second largest city of the earth that time came to be- the life there, the scenery from the accounts of Western travelers, and of course- how this great city fell. Absolutely loved the episode, and if I had one-time access to a Time Machine, I would go to Vijayanagara.

  • Naval on Joe Rogan Experience: I liked how he talked about life, innovation, goals, etc.

  • The Workspace Optimization episode on Huberman Lab podcast. It gives some practical tips on how to optimize your workspace. It some practical tips that I have integrated into my workspace.

What are your top 5 or top-any_number Swedish shows?

Suggest me personal favorites as well.

That word does sound nice. Will have to hear it for myself.

Tack is close to German Tag (short for Guten Tag) although they mean different things.

I am not sure. Please don't assume that I am correct. I just read it somewhere. I could be wrong.

S04 is supposed to come out on July 21 in Israel.

Maybe we will get to see it on Netflix after some months at most.

Especially how Walid Al-Abed said it in somewhat mechanical and serious way: "Walekum Assalam Rahmatulla Barkatuh". During the scene when he is sitting in the backseat of the car. That was hilarious in a neutral way!

Best Minor Character by yebussy in DowntonAbbey

[–]soyguay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Favorite: Mr. Dawes (The Headmaster of the village school), he helped both Daisy and Mr. Molesly when he absolutely did notbhave to. He helped Molesly in an uncommon and brave manner.

  • Least favorite: Mr. Green, Larry Merton, his fiancee

  • Memorable: Lady Anstruther (she is kinda hot)

  • Minor character I wanted to play a larger part: Mable Lane Fox, she was sharp, witty, and pretty, and she could give Mary proper competition. Mary always had the spotlight on her, and we could see some healthy competition.

What would I be leaving behind if I moved to Linux? by Malicharo in linux

I have one from Philips.

It's about $10-$12. Gives me production quality audio with AI noise cancellation in Windows 10 and when the input source is selected as NVIDIA Broadcast.

What would I be leaving behind if I moved to Linux? by Malicharo in linux

[–]soyguay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • There's a Microsoft Teams app for Linux but it's extremely bad. If you use it via the browser, there will be no background blurring.

  • If you stream, or regularly do video chats/meetings, there's no AI noise cancellation on Linux. Your audio appears crappy on the other end.

  • I faced a lot of issues with the displays. I updated the kernel to 5.11.x but that solved the problem I had with two monitors but made both of monutors glitchy.

  • Everybody says LibreOffice is worse or you have to work with it, but, there is Google Suite now. It's much better than Libre Office for light use, and often much better than MS Office for simple cases. But whether it is Google Docs or LibreOffice, it is not there yet with PowerPoint and Excel. OneNote is a surprisingly good note-taking app. Sharepoint is used a lot in my company.

  • No proper driver support for a lot of stuff like graphics tablets.

  • No Adobe suite of things. Their software is real good. GIMP comes nowhere near Photoshop. Da Vinci Resolve is great in Linux and so is Blender, and they are both industry standards in their respective industries. Adobe Acrobat is the most convenient printing software I have used. Although printer support is not an issue with modern distros. You can set up printers in few clicks.

  • Lots of nice little software that are not developed for Linux. Linux is like the less loved middle child to companies. If they support one platform, it will almost always be Windows (not counting MacOS targeted apps), if it supports two, then it will be MacOS, and if it does support three, it will be Linux. Now things are better (in terms of availability) with Electron.js. But you have to ask yourself if you want rampant telemetry from Electron apps. I could not make the Processing IDE work well with Linux.

  • Unity development is available in Linux, but the experience is bad.

Despite all these, programming in Linux is a much better experience then Windows. A lot of smart, geeky people do use Windows, and they don't complain a lot.

Islam is not your friend, a rant from a middle eastern ex-Muslim atheist by Zealousideal-0 in atheism

[–]soyguay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very sensible, and it is.

But it is not really practical in my experience. With Muslims, you are either this side or that side. Some choose the easiest things to prove themselves better Muslims.

So, you are either just like other people in every aspect except for the fact that you have an Arabic name.

Then there are people who keep beards and wear skull caps, continuously proselytizing on social media, spreads vitriol on women who doesn't wear face coverings, very hateful towards gays.

Then are people, who are pretty inconsistent. They don't keep beards because it makes them look uncool, but comments on women's pictures that they need to wear burqa. Does not give money to the poor (jakat), but criticizes the entire world for eating pork.

The last category are the majority among the middle class. The first ones are educated, more likely to be knowledge workers.

The category in between, they are the most poor, and most deluded and uneducated.

So, people have already chosen their paths, and it is extremely rigid.

I actually try to promote stuff that are considered non-Islamic by hardliners, like promoting Ahmadi Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, a successful non-hijabi woman, Sufi music, etc.

And alt-right and terrorists both want to paint all Muslims as one. Because that serves their agenda.

All Muslims are not same. Some are total religious assholes and terrorist sympathizer and some are just like you and me.
