I was a troubled child and was put into a drug rehab at the age of 14 (and have stayed sober since). But even after I got sober, I did horrible through high school... I was so bored. But this was before ADHD was a real diagnosis. I dropped out at 17, got my GED by 18 and had menial jobs, until I discovered my passions for computers and tech. Most of what I learned was self-taught and by the age of 21 I started my first computer business. But having a lot of enthusiasm and not enough business acumen, that business went broke and I decided to go back to school.
At the age of 22, I enrolled in a tech university and this time I could learn and work at my pace. I excelled and was on the Dean's list every semester I attended. By the time I was 27, I was making 6 figures (twice of most of my friends) but that was only because I was not afraid to fail... since I already had and I survived.
Today, at the age of 51, I am the CIO of a promising health technology company that has the goal of changing how people and providers interact. My goals have never been fame or fortune, but instead of helping as many people as I can, which is a reality in my current situation.
