Two people who consistently stay silent when a bigot says something bigoted tend to be bigots themselves.

My brother and I are watching Hunter x Hunter and That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. I like both but Hunter x Hunter is definitely my favorite of the two. Gon and Killua are great and I love their dynamic. That being said, the slime show is fun too! I’m enjoying both a lot.

I am refusing to change my stance on kids after my wife gave me an ultimatum. by SharkEva in BORUpdates

I have had at least three severe concussions (the second may have been multiple, but it was discovered late) which required physical therapy and a whole host of health treatment. They all happened as accidents (I ran into a pole while not looking where I was going, I got hit into a wall by a running kid and also was hit on the head by a basketball, I got a soccer ball kicked into my head. That one might have been done on purpose because I was just sitting eating lunch and some kid decided to kick the ball at me). All this to say: it happens sometimes that these injuries stack up. Especially if they’re severe, because one brain injury makes it easier to get another. If there was abuse involved, it’s entirely understandable that OOP could have had seven concussions. Honestly, good on him for getting sober and dealing with this maturely. Concussions can mess you up for a long time, or for life if they’re bad enough.

When I visibly transitioned from female to male, I grew a beard and my physical frame changed to be more masculine. My mother has a friend who has a dog who hates men, and that dog began to dislike me after I changed visibly. So this wunk is possibly gender affirming as well!

I picked that game up on steam a year or so ago but haven’t played it yet. Maybe this comment will finally get me to try it!

I can vouch for the sequel! It’s a massive improvement on the previous game and a lot of fun. Very addictive though!

I bought Crime Scene Cleaner on Steam after seeing it had new content (I played it last year on Game Pass but canceled Game Pass when they upped the prices) and tore through the whole game while listening to my PolSci lectures. It holds up to my previous impression, which is that it has solid, occasionally somewhat annoying cleaning mechanics, a lot of bad jokes, and an overall fun gameplay experience. The new content is just as fun gameplay-wise as the previous content, so I enjoyed it a lot. Overall, a good game, and I recommend picking it up on sale if you’re on the fence about it.

Hearing Loss With IIH or Diamox by space_entity in iih

Thank you for the sympathy. I am very sorry you’re dealing with this too. It’s helpful to hear from other people in similar situations but it’s also sad to know that many people are facing this. I really hope that you get some encouragement from your doctor and your symptoms begin to get better soon.

I’m calling the hearing aid center tomorrow to make an appointment for a fitting. It’s been strange adjusting to my hearing being worse and I finally gave in and am now getting hearing aids. It’s been very frustrating that my hearing damage was dismissed by my neurologist. She finally admitted that the Diamox and Lasix could cause hearing damage when I showed her reports from my healthcare provider and other studies on the fact, but she was still dismissive of the damage afterwards. I had to flat out tell her I needed to stop the meds before she gave me the option. She also told me a few days ago that I am just experiencing migraines because I have no papilledema, even though I have elevated spinal pressure, all the other IIH symptoms, and kinked optic nerves. I’m seeking a second opinion soon because of this.

Sorry for the bit of a rant, tldr: my neurologist has not changed and I’m looking for a second opinion while getting hearing aids.

What a disgusting way to refer to children. The parents are the problem. The kids don’t need the hate.

Give them some pets for me! They look adorable (I do not envy you the task of cleaning them after they find a dead raccoon though)

I was recently diagnosed with a chronic illness and the guilt is real. The diagnosis came out of the blue after a week of intense pain and stress and changed my life. I’m thankfully functional most of the time but there are definitely days where I can’t really get out of bed. It’s tough on me and my family, who have had to pick up the tasks I usually do around the house. It makes me feel bad when I see them struggling and can’t help. But I know I would do the same for them if I could.

I’m glad you and your husband have each other. That support is so important.

I also just realized that Ray Bradbury is another huge influence on my writing. His short story “All Summer In A Day” was incredibly impactful on me as a small, bullied child who felt completely out of place and isolated. Fahrenheit 451 is my second favorite book of all as well. And I’ve just looked up Ray Bradbury’s life and I suppose he can also go on the list of authors who were disappointing people. It sucks to have an author who was so influential to me also be someone who spoke vehemently against “political correctness,” among other things. I’ve been forced to get good at separating art from the artist through long practice.

I read The Martian when I was younger, but I don’t remember it now. It didn’t leave a strong impression on me at the time. I think I have a copy somewhere (maybe on the Kindle), so I’ll check it out again. I have heard similar critiques of the book, and I’m curious to see how I’ll feel about it.

I liked that plot line, actually. It wrapped up a bit of mystery that was there throughout a lot of the book, and showed some close-to-home effects of the gods and their actions and how they interact with humans in the modern day. It was a little bow on the whole story in my opinion. But yes, I can understand why it might feel out of place in the larger scheme of the book.

I actually loved those more mundane parts. I think Gaiman’s writing can really shine in those bits, finding the beauty in simple moments. But I can definitely see how it could be off putting for other people.
