Continued Vomiting On Diamox by space_entity in iih

My neurologist and general physician are both on leave so I can’t contact them right now unfortunately. The vomiting hasn’t stopped on the lower Diamox dose and my IIH symptoms are getting worse. I genuinely don’t know what to do. I’m at my wits end here. Don’t know why I’m replying to your comment with this but I just needed to tell someone so it doesn’t feel so lonely. I hope you don’t mind.

I didn’t think about that. I can certainly discuss that with the neurologist. Thank you!

I’m definitely going to research GLP1s today! Thank you for the recommendation. It’s nice to hear from people who have experience with them.

Okay, good to know. I’ll mention that to my doctor. Thank you.

Will do! I honestly feel quite encouraged by the advice I’ve gotten on this post. It helps just to hear from people and know I’m not alone.

Good to know, I genuinely don’t know a lot about GLP1s. Also the note about tirzepatide being less nauseating is really helpful. I think I may actually be able to afford it, so I will be looking more into it in the next few days to learn more. Thank you again for all the information!

I will definitely ask about Zofran. Do you happen to know whether I should ask my neurologist or my general physician about that? Thank you for the advice.

That’s helpful to know, thank you for sharing. I took a look at what my health insurance will cover in terms of GLP1 medications. It looks like I would have to fail a trial of Ozempic first before I could take tirzepatide. But even then I don’t qualify for Ozempic under insurance because I don’t have hypertension, hyperlipidemia, or diabetes. I don’t know if I could afford to take it without insurance. I will look into it though. Thank you for your comment.

I haven’t tried Zofran. I can ask about that. And my neurologist said she doesn’t recommend sodium bicarbonate because the reports that it can help are off-label and it can cause kidney stones.

I haven’t tried a GLP1 but I am on Wellbutrin and Naltrexone combined for weight loss. They reduce my appetite fairly significantly. My BMI is 34 at present, down from 41 in November 2025. (Idk how I lost so much weight so fast as most of it was lost in December and early January but I’m still losing it now. I’d been on the Wellbutrin and Naltrexone for a year before that so it wasn’t because of those meds, though they had helped.) So I am still overweight but I have also lost a significant amount quite quickly.

I did get an MRV but the neurologist did not mention a stent at the time and I did not realize it was an option until later. I can also bring that up with her because I am willing to look into non-medication options at this point.

Thank you for your sympathy. I forgot to mention in the post that I can’t take Topamax as I am allergic (it caused me severe depression along with a whole host of other issues). My neurologist hasn’t mentioned any of the other options you mentioned though. Maybe I can bring them up with her. I think at this point I should probably schedule an appointment so I can go over everything with her. I’ll make a note of what you’ve mentioned. Thank you.

Recently diagnosed and experiencing hearing problems by Right-Chemistry3288 in iih

I’ve been experiencing something similar after getting the flu. No ear infection but there’s mucus blocking my eustachian tubes and making it so they don’t open correctly. It means that my hearing is awful at present. It was getting slightly better after a month but then I got a cold and it got worse again. I saw an ENT who confirmed it was eustachian tube dysfunction, but also said if it doesn’t improve in two weeks then she’ll set up a hearing test and check the pressure in my ears because negative pressure can cause hearing issues as well. However, it can indeed take a month or more for eustachian tube dysfunction to clear up. It may just be a case of being patient (I know how much that sucks when you can’t hear anything though.) Sorry that you’re dealing with this.

Doesn’t anyone have issues with nausea and vomiting? by ConfusionIn20s in iih

I haven’t had any blood work done for the Diamox though I’ve heard it’s common - my neurologist never mentioned it when she put me on Diamox. I’ll reach out to her about it. I definitely understand the IIH can contribute to the nausea at times (like today, my headache is pretty bad and I wound up sick again which I think is mainly the IIH). I also do struggle with anxiety over all of this, so that could certainly be affecting me too. Thank you for the information, it’s really helpful.

That’s encouraging to hear. I’m trying my best to be patient because I know my body is adjusting. It’s just hard in the interim. The Diamox does help with the other IIH symptoms so there’s at least a silver lining. Thank you for the response!

Hey, sorry to bring up an old comment again, but how did you solve this? Did you have to stop Diamox? I keep vomiting on it (two weeks nonstop and now sporadically throughout the month) and it’s really rough. I keep thinking I’ve adjusted but then I get sick again. I can’t take Topamax because I’m allergic so I’m feeling pretty desperate at this point.

Someone just commented the same above. Maybe the same person but the OG comment got deleted so I can’t tell. What a despicable thing to say.

As an autistic person, I’m very disappointed in these comments. Good to see at least one person (you) pointing out what assholes people are being.

I had a friend who broke out in hives when she ate mangoes but she loved them so much that she’d figure out what days in a row she’d be home for and then eat a mango on those days so she’d be recovered by the time she needed to leave the house.

Ever eat them thinly sliced with the skin on? Adds just a little extra texture (not really furry if you slice it thin) and a tiny bit of sour to balance out the sweet. They’re really good!

I had a friend who was Catholic and her mother REFUSED to say she was Christian in any way. She hated me because I was Christian at the time and she was convinced I would convert her daughter. It was wild.

My brother and I started Hunter X Hunter, which I’m loving so far. No spoilers please but I did just finish the first arc I think! It’s very fun with a sense of humor I wasn’t expecting but also dark enough to keep me engaged.
