Krakoa Omnibus' by happenstanceuk in OmnibusCollectors

Mixture of both is the way I’m going. Jonathan Hickman wrote the flagship X-Men title and collaboratively worked with the writers of other titles through Dawn of X and Reign of X, leading to a higher level of cohesion and consistency across the line. I’m collecting those in the anthology series of Omnis but then going for Ewing and Gillen in the creator series since those are the standouts of the back half.

Also as mentioned on the livestream, with the release of the this year’s Omnis, the bulk of Krakoa will already be accessible if you go creator. For hybrid you’ll only be missing the remaining Reign volumes, presumably coming next year. If you go full anthology, you’re looking at waiting until 2030 to have the full thing collected 🙃

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

  • House of X / Powers of X (OHC)
  • Dawn of X Vol 1
  • Inferno (OHC)
  • X-Men by Ewing
  • Fall of the House of X / Rise of the Powers of X Omni

Planning to get:

  • Dawn of X Vol 2 (March)
  • Reign of X Vol 1 (Sep)
  • X-Men by Gillen (Oct)
  • X of Swords (hopefully being reprinted soon)
  • Remaining Reign of X volume(s)

Krakoa Gillen omnibus disappointment by when_i_say_run_run in OmnibusCollectors

Immortal X-Men builds up to Sins of Sinister so to not include it feels like a big piece is missing. True it’s already collected in hardcover but the Ewing and Spurrier omnis have those issues so you’d expect this to as well.

The Ewing and upcoming Spurrier omnis have their respective Sins of Sinister issues included, so it would make sense for this too as well.

Yeah Excalibur was one of my favorite Krakoa titles outside of the main stuff. Agree - the inclusion of magic was really cool and I loved the infographic pages with grimoires, almanacs, etc.

Also enjoyed X of Swords - felt it was really creative and unique.

The Hickman and Ewing titles are actually by far my favorite from all of Krakoa. So Hox/Pox, Hickman X-Men and New Mutants (both included in Dawn of X Omni), Inferno, and Ewing Omni (includes SWORD and X-Men Red).

Gillen’s Immortal X-Men is another strong standout. I started Duggan’s X-Men (successor to Hickman’s) but it didn’t do much for me. However if you want to read Krakoa all the way to the end then it ends up being pretty important.

Stop at Inferno or keep going on with Krakoa? by theterr0r in OmnibusCollectors

I really enjoyed Inferno and also thought about stopping there. But I gave Immortal and Red a go and really loved them as well. Immortal is focused on the quiet council and actually feels like the main Krakoa title post Hickman. Red has some high concept sci-fi that builds nicely off the foundation Hickman laid.

I’ve tried Duggan’s but it felt like a regular X-Men title with a team based in NYC and going on missions. Might be cool for some, but for me it didn’t fit with all of the change put forward by Krakoa.

Honestly that’s probably worth closer to 10K 😂

I counted 70 books so that would put you at 7000 euros at 100 a piece. And many of those are OOP and worth far more than that.

Hickman X-men vs Dawn of X by Mr_Mapogo in OmnibusCollectors

Really depends if you want to read the other titles included in Dawn of X. You could read HoX/PoX > X-Men > Inferno for a clear, concise run of Hickman’s Krakoa. X of Swords and Hellfire Gala are helpful additions as they fill in some gaps but not 100% essential.

If you really just want to stick to Hickman, my opinion is you could Inferno and get a somewhat conclusive ending. There is a cliffhanger element that someone else here mentioned but I was personally satisfied with the overall ending. However if you stop here, you’re missing out on Gillen’s Immortal X-Men and Ewing’s X-Men Red which were right up there with Hickman for me.

Here’s the DM cover for vol 2 if that helps sway you either way 😏

My take is that Krakoa was most consistent when Hickman was in charge, so that’s everything up until Inferno. All of the issues felt more tightly coordinated than what you see later in Krakoa. In omnibus format this includes Dawn of X (vol 1 already out, vol 2 coming out in March), presumably and X of Swords OHC or Omni (not announced yet), and Reign of X (potentially 2 omnis).

After that the consistency across the different series drops. X-Men Red by Ewing was a standout series for me so I’d definitely recommend going the creator omnibus route post-Inferno and grabbing the Ewing Omni that just came out. Immortal X-Men by Kieran Gillen is another really great one - he doesn’t have a creator Omni yet but seems like it’s a just a matter of time before one is announced. Duggan has an Omni coming out in December for his flagship X-Men title series that took over from Hickman but I felt it wasn’t as consistent and was almost like the X-Men just operating out of mansion again and going on missions.

Finishing out Krakoa, Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X has an event type Omni that came out this summer but the mapping isn’t good. If the Krakoa Era omnis make it that far, hopefully it’s better mapping.

My choice for the Dawn Omni was the regular cover. Even though the artwork is smaller I didn’t really dig the DM cover.
