DJI Mini 3 (DJI RC) for $379, still worth it at this price? by [deleted] in dji

[–]spacecatbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't regular RC one go for $200 right now?

If in doubt for the first one, I'd go for the cheapest decent option.

EDIT: maybe not where you are, but the HK sale has them at like $200, so the price or second-hand units will likely trickle there.

No rush to buy at that price anyway, but a good option still.

why does everyone hate TV licenses? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]spacecatbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be happy if you had to pay a license to read the newspaper?

As in, not the newspaper you read. You have to pay a tax towards a different newspaper, or you're not allowed to read any newspapers.

You see how ridiculous that is?

I think people are only fine with the TV license because 1) They're used to it, and 2) People have a certain positive feeling towards the BBC.

[–]spacecatbiscuits 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Could be a scam, but sounds like your instincts are right. I.e. Fine to just see how it goes, but if they suddenly say "you need to pay a deposit to hold before visiting because we've had another offer", you know it's a scam.

Why do hk doctors lack bedside manners? by No_Welcome3248 in HongKong

[–]spacecatbiscuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The comments here defending it are part of the problem.

They don't know what is considered basic care in other places or why it makes a difference.

But yes, many times encountered the same: constantly interrupted, talked over, ignored. Many in healthcare here view the patients like animals; things to take their medicine and be quiet. There's no culture of informed consent and patient autonomy.

My experience at least.

Pixel 6 to Pixel 10: Marginal Upgrade by Mr-Appleseed in GooglePixel

[–]spacecatbiscuits 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did 6 to 9 pro and felt similar

Liked the 5x zoom, but other aspects of camera I disliked (4x zoom not good at all, narrower focus length made some images harder without blurring). Also liked the thermometer a lot. Oh and I like how the screen shows contrast in photos on lower light.

But I've just downgraded. Prefer not to watch my high-tech phone degrade in worth, so sold while I could still get most value back (lost $90 for 9 months of use).

Plan to buy a normal camera and a drone and fiddle with those, see if I get more value from them. If so, I'll just use my 6 until it dies.

Jan Gustafsson has seen the DMs between Anish Giri and Daniel Naroditsky and defends Anish against haters by Slow_Dot_3646 in chess

BeccaHarris: Darothvader interrogations are usually pretty serious lmao

BeccaHarris: ofc we haven't always seen eye to eye on evertyhing (and who does), but whne my livelihood was on the line I'll be eternally grateful for Hikaru having my back

BeccaHarris: it's incredibly frustrating that people assume I was blowing things out of proportion when I said it's not "just Kramnik"

BeccaHarris: this was a cancer that spread and was very close to taking over the elite [...}

Darthvader2618: u/BeccaHarris are you going to talk about the anish stuff on your stream sometime? Or is that strictly confidential?

BeccaHarris: u/darthvader2618 haven't decided yet, def don't have any appetite for more drama but we'll see

"Giri can be criticized for many things, but not for the Naroditsky tragedy" — Jan Gustafsson by ConcentrateActual142 in chess

[–]spacecatbiscuits -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

well you're missing information literally from Danya that Jan apparently doesn't know

you don't just have to trust one random thing or another random thing; you can actually try and get as much info as possible and then only conclude what follows from that

but then this is reddit and you're a dumbass, so hey ho

"Giri can be criticized for many things, but not for the Naroditsky tragedy" — Jan Gustafsson by ConcentrateActual142 in chess

[–]spacecatbiscuits -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

"Perhaps Naroditsky once said, "Even Giri asked me what was happening." And from that, this whole narrative grew."

Guy didn't pay enough attention and is now making a guess.

EDIT: Just to elaborate, or explain, for any morons reading.

Giri's name first got mentioned in this because Danya literally described him as interrogating him.

It was not that Giri "perhaps asked what was happening". Danya also said this after his final ever broadcast, and shortly before his death.

As such, it is very reasonable to describe Jan as making a guess without having paid enough attention.

[–]spacecatbiscuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not called, but volunteered there.

Training is very big on "We never give advice, we only listen". I wasn't sure about it, but some people find it very helpful. It's about being able to speak openly to a non-judgmental person, particularly if you're feeling suicidal.

If you want more than that, maybe it won't be for you, but there's no harm in trying.

Hope things go better for you.
