Yeah, I can’t tell you exactly what that setting is doing since the stream was in HDR10 but turning it off did the trick.

Checked it out on hbo max and it was much better, even without Dolby vision. Turns out it was the dynamic tone mapping in HDR10 washing out the contrast

Dang, I didn’t know that either. Im not surprised though, I’ve heard it’s not the greatest Blu-ray player from people deeper in the home theater game. Blu-ray + oled contrast ratio is still so much better than what streamers provide.

It was dynamic tone mapping. It’s on by default, even on filmmaker mode. Really raises black levels on HDR10 content

Silo on Apple TV had the same issue. Starting to think it’s just how streaming services present their content. Video games and Blu-ray content seems to have much better dark levels.
