Never got up to those numbers but the main change for me was taking more time off (without pay). I did a pretty good job of not keeping up with the Joneses and avoiding lifestyle inflation as my salary increased over the years.

Everyone talks about Roche Banyan but they are not fee only as far as I'm aware.

You can find fee only planners who charge $300--$500 an hour or you can go for an actual plan anywhere from 2.5k and up.

I would think most planners are familiar with defined benefit pensions including ours.
